How about a Total War remake of the good old Age Of Empires 2: Age Of Kings.
Just tell me if u want to rip my head of and feed it to lions for my bad idea (or not?)

How exactly would you do that?
That'd be reeeeally difficult, as the games are radically different at their cores.
I respect AoK, as the game that introduced me to TW's genre, but I don't think it's worth putting the time and effort into such a retrofit.
IMO, of course.

probably would be good but how can you do that? I have no idea.![]()
AoK was a global scope, covering everyone from the Mayans to the Japanese. It would be one hell of an undertaking just making a new, global map, to say nothing of making new units.
If you want to go ahead with it, then good luck, and more power to you. Just be aware... it'll be aof a project. Especially if you work alone.
yeah.. what ever
Actually, AOK pretty much had the same units for every faction, excluding the ones you couldnt get anyways, plus 1 or 2 unique units....so there arent more than 20-30 units to make for that particular mod. Practically its only the models and the skins, as you can "upgrade" your units by the M2TW Blacksmith, or something. Plus its not really about that, its more about polishing. AOK music and screens and whatever else, while really, campaign and battle comes second.
Hmmm.... Random map campaign..... i like the idea.
I like the idea too and such a mod is in a good production for Mount & Blade as well. Though, indeed, the biggest problem would probably be with the strategic map and in the end it would probably have to be "non-historical" (i.e. some completely made-up land) or it would have to cover only the European factions of AoK/TC.
Well. I have thought of this before. It is possible but you would have to kill a lot from Age of Empires. And, instead of making a real world map, you could add all the nations to a custom map, but again, it would take years to make it a good one. I realize you wanted to help with the idea but I would like you to know that modding is not a piece of pie. I thought it was when I first started, but boy I was wrong. Modding medieval is not something where you load a map editor and in a few hours you are done. Modding medieval takes years. Please check the forums guides on mapping, creating mod folders, and more. Then try it for yourself. No offense, but I bet you 100 dollars you won't be able to make even the folder for the mod, with no CTDs and a working map in one day.
Maybe you are right guys, it wouldnt work that well.
Don't listen to them.
Age of Kings was excellent, and if you want to go ahead and make it, then some naysayers (who in truth are used to large/motivated teams of experienced modders, such as those behind Third Age, All Under Heaven and similar mods which are unbelievably polished) have no right to say "you can't do this, you can't do that" etc.
I knew very little about modding, but I still gave it a go - trial and error, and it became relatively easy.
At the start, you could just create a vanilla total war experience. Learn how to put the Age of Kings sounds in, along with images.
Then, campaigns.
Hell, one thing I'd love to be able to play is a "Deathmatch" style campaign, everyone starts off with a single general, a settlement, and a pot of gold. Who now can take over the world? Perhaps that could be something to do.
Then, as you get better, or more used to the engine, start changing the appearance of units, by modelling or skinning. Then, scripted campaigns, etc. If you're not up to that, then bringing in others who are skilled or experienced at it can really help.
I've played a number of Historical, Fantasy and alternate history mods, and they're excellent. However, what would be nice is a "fun" game, similar to what M2TW should have been. It's your time, you do what you would like to.

We are trying to share our experience with those who have not been in involved heavily in modding (and assume its easy), not tell people what to do. If you think genuinely something like this would takethen you are either a modding genius or severely misguided. Listen to what people here are saying (except Vaz) its good advice - ask yourself what do you bring to the table, how will you motivate and recruit a new team ?like a couple of months or something
Well, i think Vaz is right. I just cant understand how super genious modding teams take years to make one mod. Because I have modded myself a little (and my mod will be small) and hell no it didnt take more than a couple of weeks making some new units and small stuff like that. But ofc naturally i dont know anything about how the mod teams work and what kind of changes they do so dont get all angry to me and hate me!
And btw Vaz, those were some great ideas u mentioned there![]()

Sry but im not... I was (once again) talking about little modelling (like changes in existin units) and based on my experience i just estimated it wouldnt take SO much time to model a dozen new units with a some changes (i could do units from existing ones) but i was apparently wrong.![]()
