Uhtred of Brandenburg is not a real character, he is a bad-ass, but not real. If he were to be added he would probably be on the side of Wessex, as he (I believe) married a relation to Alfred the Great
Though I just remembered that Bernard Cornwell did base him off of an Uhtred (at least that is what I think, for I do not have the books on me at the moment, one would have to look in the historical note to find out).

Yes, he did base him off of Uhtred of Bamburgh or Uhtred the bold. He was assassinated in 1016 and he was ealdorman of all northumbria starting from 1006.

He did state in the first book I believe that he was distantly related to him as well, you're right on that .

yes, he most certainly was, he is by far the most bad ass irishman that ever lived, and i would go so far as today, one of the most bad ass leaders/hero's that lived in the time period covered by the mod. He was never defeated in battle, and was killed by a viking lord fleeing after their defeat at the battle of clontarf, Brian, being 70+ years old was praying in his tent and had left the battle to his son to fight, the viking killed brian, but then brians step brother, who was half insane, chased him down, caught him, tore open his stomach, pulled out his intestines, tied him to a tree WITH his intestines, then sat there all day watching him die a slow death, while being pecked at by crows...

Just Imagine the possibilties the modern power Ireland would have today if the viking mercenary Boromir had not killed him.But I suppose if he had died of natural reasons then there would be an arguement over the heir to the next crown.
