    Default Attach particle

    Hi All,

Does anybody know, that is it possible to attach a particle-effect to a specific unit.?

I mean like the game attaches the torchlight at night battles....

guess that I have a unit and I want them to fight with a burning torch...is this possible?

    thx

    I guess it's not.

That's what I was afraid of......

another question....same kind of problem...the burning men effect( I guess it's a shader)...

Could I apply that one to a unit somehow? Like a permanent burning unit, kind of like the Human-torch from fantastic four.
I've been working on a fantasy mod and I would really need some burning body effect...

    thx

No again i guess although the time for it can be increased but there is nor real point a dead body burning for such a long time infact it will only put stress on the GPU if say 200 dead soldiers are burning on the battlefield.

    Ok, then that's right.Thx

Can I have a last question ?....my last hope to accomplish my goal.

Is it possible to have transparent alpha channel on the unit textures?...like a "ghost" unit...

    Cheers

Yes it's possible just paint the alpha channel including its weapons to black and the unit will be a unit of invisible girls(fantastic 4).

Oh, thx Ishan but I'd like to have some transparecy...like a projected figure, (princess lea and R2D2), you know what I mean....not a completely invisible body...

I'll give a try, but I'm afraid the game only recognise 0 and 1 alpha channels, there is or isn't.

    or any solution?

    thx in advance

For that u only have to make new texture that pretty much looks transparent type.

I don't understand all i know is there is only 1 layer of alpha channel in a texture file. And for texturing units i use Photoshop CS2.

    Hope this helps.

If your asking if an alpha channel needs to be either 0 or 1 for each pixel then no it shouldn't be. 255,255,255 (= white) is fully visible to the screen and 0,0,0 (= black) is invisible. Any value in the middle will be partially transparent. Different parts of the alpha layer can have different values so you can make the sword fully visible but the body partially visible for example. Do remember that alpha layer visibility will have no effect on the AI being able to see the unit, only the player will be affected.

Alpha Channel can either be White(255,255,255) or black (0,0,0).
If you want to make the unit ghostly type then u have to make an entire new texture for it with a white alpha channel.

I don't understand that at all.......what do you mean by "entire new texture"?
White alpha channel will make the texture fully visible everytime right? That won't be ghostly.

    Sorry guys,

    Sorry guys,
Every unit in M2 uses 2 types of textures one for the unit and the other for the attachments that it uses like Swords, shields etc.
So I'm saying that u have to edit them not it's alpha channel to give them ghostly look.
And by edit them i mean create entire new textures with the help of tool such as UVgenerator which generates a texture from the ms3d model of the unit.
Upon it u have paint ur imaginary texture that u want 2 create.

Does that makes any sense now?

Ok, I do understand what you are saying. I have to paint the ghostly look, alright. Only thing is this....the attached image...I can never have that effect in M2TW? (I made this one with photoshop). That's the ghostly look what I'd like to achieve.

Though its a revolutionary idea from the fantasy point of view but its not possible. Coz you see the pic clearly shows transparency.
Maybe a advanced skinner and modeler can answer the question and may have a solution but i doubt there is.

I'm sad. I'm pretty sure it was possible in RomeTW...
alright thx guys for the answers...

As I said earlier it wouldn't have any effect on the AI at all, since the AI would not know the unit was (partially) transparent, the AI would treat the unit as if it was fully visible.

Thx, Squid, but that wouldn't matter for me...I'd do this thing for the visual trick.
