These books was what got me into the time period in the first place. Quite easy to read and at least helped me better understand Napoleon as a person better but there well be more detailed and exhaustive ones out there. There is also one i strongly recommend you avoid:

    http://www.amazon.com/Napoleon-Man-W.../dp/1862270783

It is written by the creator of the International Napoleonic Society and another member and feels quite biased.

I'd REALLY recommend "The War of Wars" by Robert Harvey ISBN 978-1-84529-635-3.

It's available on amazon, that's where I got mine.

It's a brilliantly put together read about the whole period. It covers: France in Tumult 1789-93, Britain Asleep 1789-95, Conquer of Italy, The Invasion of Egypt, Napoleon King of Kings, Britain Alone, The Peninsular War, the Invasion of Russia and finally Waterloo, the Fight to the Death.

It's very easy to read, not too detailed, but enough to tell a good, historically correct, story.

While not a bio, I would heartily recommend David Chandler's "The Campaigns of Napoleon" as a good read to understand his rise and fall http://www.amazon.co.uk/Campaigns-Na...9577297&sr=1-1 It doesn't cover his last period in St Helena. Unfortunately it is currently out of print

Frank McLynn's is very informative and even handed, I promise you'll be satisfied with it.

I see someone likes the G. Ellis book
    http://www.amazon.com/Napoleon-Geoff.../dp/0582437520
    or
    http://www.amazon.com/Napoleon-Mento.../dp/0451627989

I found the Chandler book a good first read but apparently out of print.
