What do you think of the Peninsular Campaign?
I like the quick turns and smaller scope.
So far the best campaign, good units and a fun and challenging campaign
Cheers![]()
I enjoyed it. It definitely has a unique feel to it and its smaller scope, as opposed to the grand campaign, allows for greater immersion. The unique technology trees, guerrilla and contra guerrilla units, mission types and descriptions, and the use of priests and provocateurs to sway public opinion all mesh together perfectly to create an unique and engrossing campaign. In my opinion, it was worth the ten dollar price tag, but I can't see myself playing it more than once per faction. I also would have liked some of the new units and campaign features to be integrated with the grand campaign. Overall, I voted for the 'A little bit of fun' if only for the limited replayablility (In my opinion, of course).
I'll stop arguing against God the second I'm disproven'. I'm praying to God I eventually am.
The guerilla warfare its self is so awesome. First game I've ever been able to set a real ambush on and truly rape the units with my guerillas as they encircle the enemy army, revealing themselves all at once, and striking a deadly blow.

Fun, on h/h money is tight, French are everywere. its realy tough and fun to have a real challenge.
The guerrilla deployment zone I think is a great development, and one that can be modded to be used on just about any unit in a future mod. I agree with most of the posters, having just beat the British campaign on VH, it was a unique challenge, mostly because money was tight for me even up until the last few turns, which had the effect of making me fight every single battle and really care about conserving my troops, rather than have the easy option of spamming line infantry half way through the game, and just steamrolling the map. Also, the CAI did some interesting things that impressed me, like employing feints....marching to a city to draw my attention and once I moved to counter, another army that had slowly been moving through forest would appear at another city. All in all, worth the money.
i like this small campaigns with fast turns...really challenging.

Brilliant I hope this is a taste of what shogun 2 will be like simple but with layers of complexity, Im loving it on VH campaign H battle its tough!
But Shogun 2 will be as big as the Grand campaign from NTW.
Fun, but we need more. CA seriously needs to look back to, say, Medieval II: Total War Kingdoms. The four campaigns were quite an addition, and they'd still be - but we have only one so far. Haitian Revolution, War of 1812 etc - the subjects are out there; CA only needs to use them.

Hi there.
As of now, the Peninsular campaign are, besides the Eupopean Campaign as Napoleon, the only fun part of the game, so I say fun.

Great campaign, ok limited in scale but probably the best single campaign CA have done to date. Hopefully something they will expand on.

There´s a thing i love in small campaigns like warpath and peninsula one and that´s the number of soldiers because in a small campaign map territory is more believable and realistic. For example i play them with unit multiplier and the number of soldiers in peninsula campaign look like it was really...
I'd played it for around 2 hours then stopped playing it. I could see I was going to win easily so didn't see the point in carrying on.

I had to go with "a little bit of fun" because while I do like the mini-campaign structure a lot, with the smaller scope and quicker turns, for one reason or another I didn't really enjoy myself as much as I would have liked while playing it. I started out as the British and even with both the campaign and battle difficulties set to hard, I walked over most of Spain quite easily, only finding a challenge when I neared the Franco-Spanish border and scores of French elite infantry popped out of nowhere. There is one exception, though, but I'm not sure if this was implemented in this expansion, or if I just hadn't encountered it before, but the ambushing mechanic is excellent, where when you intercept an army when you're hidden in a forest it allows you to position your units on the battle map in positions that encircle the entire enemy force, which appears in a marching formation. I like that feature a lot.
Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy the campaign as a whole a bit, but I think I had more fun playing the campaigns set in Europe and Italy. I'm also not much of a fan of the Spanish countryside, but that's a rather nitpicky gripe if ever there was one. I am rather hoping there'll be a mini-campaign for Russia, but with the development of Shogun II already well underway, I'm not too expectant.
All-in-all I think the Peninsula Campaign gets a "Not Bad" from me.
