I couldn't find another thread entirely about the vocal technique of screaming so i hope there is no reason for this to be deleted.

My opinion is that screaming is decent if used well.
    Not like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DyOSx62c2Ic
I'm not meaning to offend anyone who likes this music but i just find it terrible. I do like screaming but just not that over the top.

    Share your thoughts people.
P.S I will try find some videos of what i think is 'good screaming'. 5 minutes...

Personally I prefer singing, and despise any type of screaming/shouting in music. That's one of the reasons why I prefer metal from the 70's and 80's over modern metal. I just appreciate a really good singer over somebody who just screams into the microphone (and as a result I can't understand a word they're saying).

I also like classical music (and recently I've started listening to a bit of opera) so that may be why I am biased towards singing rather than screaming.

Yeah you are right, i prefer singing. I listen to alot of older metal , sabbath, priest etc. Also some stuff like Bon Jovi and Skidrow. But i'm not gonna completely disregard screaming just because some people do it badly.

A scream like at 5:57 in this song is pretty cool.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1bFP37oj1vQ
But most of the song is just normal singing. I dislike when someone screams all throughout the song. Screaming for emphasis is good in my books.

It is a same for metal. Guys like Black Sabbath and other that were mentioned above, are legends, some of them may scream a bit, but they do it on a bloody right way.

Exactly. I don't mind screaming, it just has to be done right.

Wow, so many closed minded people on this thread. Quite saddening we live in a world like that.

People who take this attitude, I wonder about the conditions of their upbringing. Being that closed minded is pretty worrying actually.

The song in the OP is Deathcore. You're a mile off with "Scene Hardcore".

The funny thing is, I saw Suicide Silence supporting Devildriver. Both great bands, and 3 Inches of Blood too.

I love screaming in music for the same reason everybody loves their favourite kinds of music: it sounds good to me. As I said, the closed-mindedness of some metal fans on here is truly saddening. Go back 30-40 years and people were saying exactly the same about Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, and the other bands that marked the start of metal. "Oh I hate them because they're different." Basically sums it up.

I agree with you, the voice is a instrument in music and screaming is a different way of using it.

Not that there is great examples of it in this thread but the point is that I don't understand the problem with different vocal styles depending on the themes of the song. I can't imagine that first Suicide Silence song that was shown having singing instead of the (crappy enhanced) screaming and growling, it wouldn't go well with the actual music and the lyrics.

And vice versa everybody dislikes their least favorite music because: It sounds bad to them . For me it's not because they're different or a part of a certain genre. It's because it sounds worse than scraping fingernails across a chalkboard while my robot neighbors are having un-oiled sex in a room full of self playing vuvuzelas with demonic bagpipes playing backup.

I can respect that you have your own taste in music but that doesn't change the fact that it's unappealing to me and I have no problems informing others of that fact.

This is about the level of screaming I can endure without killing myself:

If the screamo fits into the rhythm and is accompanied by singing it can work ok.

Was Just about to post that, fairly good song.
Yea if it fits the rythm and not overused, screaming fine by me. I can handle clean sreams and growls but pig squeels are just too far IMO.

Another good song by A Day To Remember with a bit more screaming.

This. Fair enough, if you like heavy metal, thats your taste, but if you dress like that and you like this sort of stuff, which is basically just loud noise, you're trying to be different for the sake of it. Screaming is just plain retarded.

Not really...I like it a lot and I don't really care what people think. I don't like a lot of mainstream music, but there's a lot I do like. Just because you don't like this music doesn't mean you have to make generalizations about the people that do.

Wow, that was the worst song I've heard in ages.

I hardly understand why people listen to metal, let alone this kind of screamo metal or whatever you call it.

Do you dislike this song? This is a metal song that i think alot of non metal lovers may like. It has its heavy parts but is fairly soft. Other stuff by Pantera you will probably hate though.
Any way what i'm trying to say is not all metal is bad. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=poD-gi3A4zw <-- That is pretty mad as well.
I'm not one of those people that says metal is better then everything though. I really like Neil Young. I am 14 and i don't find anyone else my age that likes such music.
