    Default Playing Difficulty

    So I've been led to believe I suck at Rome TW

    I only play on Medium/ Medium difficulty and the game is quite fun, and I daresay challenging.
    Is there something Im doing wrong though?

    I've been playing a few months now, maybe two hours at a time (a good deal in my opinion,) but all of the Historical battles seem impossible and I can only imagine the H/H and VH/VH campaigns being much harder. Perhaps thats because of their names.

    @Arvedui01:

    I highly doubt that you are incapable of being good at RTW. For one, some of the historical battles (i.e. Carrhae) are extremely tough, so don't feel bad if they present a challenge. I will say this though. On higher difficulties you have less margin for error. Essentially, enemies will not rout as quickly, so you have to be smarter about flanking in particular. Here's a suggestion: try playing online. Granted, your first few battles are going to be rough; I know I was owned during my initial battles. Once you've played online, then go back to single player. You'll find that the AI is incredibly stupid and predictable compared to online opponents. Bump the difficulty up to H/H, VH/VH, or whatever floats your boat, and just accept the fact that like multiplayer, your first few shots will be rough. After a while you'll be totally used to it. Hope that helped.

    Imho Teutoborg Forest is the hardest but the Siege of Sparta is by far the most annoying.
    It's ok, the more you play H/H and VH/VH the better you will get at them. It's not a matter of "suckage" but one of experience.

    Well said and true. It's just a matter of knowing how units and the AI behave. You'll pick it up by playing whether online or against the AI.

    None of us 'suck' at RTW singleplayer.

    We buy the game...we play it our own way, if so inclined I lose no sleep over smashing the British Isles with mega-stacks of elephants.

    Would bumping up the difficulty make you better at multiplayer? I play on M/M with relative ease and I'm wondering whether its worth increasing the difficulty for multiplayer purposes as I used to be fairly good, dare I say it, at multiplayer but after a recent break I'm pretty useless. Will this help? My initial thoughts are no, due to the predictability of the enemy AI and such but I'm not completely sure. What do we think?

    Not sure I would equate bumping up the campaign or battle AI with multiplayer stuff.

    They're different types of games I guess, and those masterpiece multiplayer videos are viewable on Youtube.

    Why should there be anything wrong with that? Have never played an higher setting myself
    (ok I played only three campaign on vanilla RTW and switched to mods - and they offer more challenge. So Iīm stuck at M/M when playing e.g. Europa Barbarorum)
    The difficulty levels are there to please different type of players. The only way to suck would be being defeated in an Easy/Easy campaign regularly after having experience of some weeks playing.
    And the historical battles are for sure harder than a campaign. That was always so in the TW games I have tried.

    @g0ra: higher difficulty settings at battles have no effects on the AI in Rome or Med2. They donīt get smarter (as in older games like Shogun or Medieval1). Only having higher attack and/or morale (+4 at High / +7 at VH). So no training for multiplayer anymore I guess.
