    Default Generals

Hi, I searched for a thread like this but didn't find one, so I took the liberty to start it myself. Hope nobody minds.

What's your favourite generals bodyguard unit? Pick one of the "standard" ones (i.e. Roman General, Generals Bodyguard) and one of the "special" ones (i.e. Roman Armoured General, Generals Armoured Bodyguard). You can also mention your least favourite overall.

My favourite "standard" bodyguard would probably have to be the Eastern General. I love missile cavalry and I like playing as an eastern faction. What's not to like about a 2hp missile cav unit? Yea, I know that the Egyptian Chariot General is better, but I find chariots boring and egypt boring so I'll go with the Eastern General.

Of the "special" ones, I'd had to say I'm not sure. I'm torn between the awesome looks and all-around effectiveness of the Roman Armoured General, and the brute force of 2hp cataphracts that is the Armoured Eastern General.

My least favourite is certainly the hellenistic Generals Bodyguards. They die easily to missiles, and are generally just plain weak (compared to other generals). The armoured version is pretty good though.

    So, what are your favorites?

The Eastern armoured for sure, it should be most people's sense it is the strongest, i'm not sure if it's slow moving like the cataphracts, but it is the strongest.

Egyptian narrowly win it for me. Chariot archers with extra hit points just make an unfairly powerful general unit. Followed closely by British generals, who unfortunately come up against lots of phalanx units and can't deal with them like the Egyptian equivalent can. Then Eastern Generals.

Of the special variety, I'm not really sure. Maybe Eastern.

I'm going to have to have to agree with both variations of the Eastern bodyguards. They are just so much better than other bodyguards. On another note, the Greek Bodyguards are simply terrible.

    Best general: Eastern Armoured General
Worst general: Any chariot general (they die so fast of missile etc. thats why I like to kill off the generals of the Britons and Egyptians ^^)

Why no chariot love? Play Egypt and send a general and the two chariot archers you start with towards Carthage and beat them with two units. It's hilarious.

Best: British Barbarian Warlord-The only General's bodyguard which has any use whatsoever in multiplayer, rips up any cav from any direction, rips up inf from the rear, plus a double morale effect on enemies. And the best part, they have 5 freakin hitpoints!! 5!
Worst: Greek general's bodyguard-Same as greek cav but with less men and higher morale.

Has to be a toss up between the British Generals and the Armored Eastern Generals for me. Roman and Barbarian Generals are more than capable, but they aren't overly impressive. Greek Generals play their part, but just are not as tough as the others like stated above.

The best standard CAMPAIGN, bodygaurd is the Greek Cities' (not macedon/ selucids) General, lemme explain, the greeks lack any sorts of heavy cavarly recruitment options in campaign. Family memers have always served as the heavy cav I needed in my campaigns. Otherwise most powerful standard is Barbarian or Carthaginian, most eastern armies r already full of missile cav, no need for a general missile right? Chairot generals are to easy to be killed if they are bogged down. Special bodygaurd would be eastern, beacuz cats with 2 hit points are pretty much tanks

I really don't see how someone would get their chariot generals bogged down when vsing the AI, unless they have been completely surrounded by 1,000,000,000,000 man-eating phalanxes. I guess it just boils down to personal experience though.

Well obviously phalanx will eat them up, but alos spearmen, and heavy infantry, atleast my chariots behave this way

I have to admit, chariot generals are ace as long as they survive. I really do like the Armoured eastern general the most though. It's like having a four legged panzer division.

Mass Chariot General charging in mass into none phalanx unit means a lot of routing lily livered enemies

My most dreaded is the barbarian general. Especially in a siege, you send in your hastatis and principes, and heck triarii, and they melt like butter.
