    Default Epic mod!

Haven't played the mod for verylong but I like it sofar. Got it 3 days ago or so, and im getting my ass handed. Probably made it to about turn 10 or so before I gave up. But it's so great, altough not sure what I'm doing wrong, I guess it's all these years playing either vanilla rome or RTR . Some of my first battles were so epic, Gaul attacked the northwest town, can't remember the name now, and I only had a small garrison. The way they moved just like a swarm of ants completely surrounding all of my men looked menacing, every single one of them got killed but I was happy about it because it was awesome. I've tried reading the help guide but it's not helping that much maybe I'm a hopeless case...

I'll try to keep at it, not giving up yet. Demon's souls (PS3) taught me not to, desperate times calls for desperate measures?

Keep at it, SPQR is unique with its battles and campaign. Its for the Hardcore player that wants Total War.

Oh, but please play M/M otherwise you will not win. lol

It is because of this mod that I play rome total war .

Yeah, thats what I am running . At work now, but i will get me some more gametime next week, hopefully I can survive my first turns next campaign restart. I've read the first turns are crucial and surviving them is hard. With some practice I hope I can turn the Roma Fail into Roma Victor

if you have a look at my signature you'll see a spqr help guide.

In it you'll find more than a few useful things, and if you'd like anything added please say. But you'll also find a link in that guide to hesus' 15 turn guide. Probably one of the most useful things you can look at when you start, since it discusses battle tactics, and game details that will really make a difference to your game.

Started a new fresh campagin and followed the first steps of the starting guide. Lost 2 fights against the Gauls Genoa and open field, but lost Genoa just barely, managed to route most of them but some came back and with renewed confidence they finaly broke through my defences.
And I also lost the town to Hannibal since I did a faulty move which left the passage undefended. Next fight will be with proper units, (the fights against gauls were mostly Town Watch) and it will be against Theo, that should'nt be much of a problem then I'm taking back my town and currently restocking on some Hastati which will ressupply my northern defences. Can't detail it properly as I'm at work as usual . Will report with details when I'm home again with Rome!

Indeed, it is pretty tough. Only managed about 8 turns or so, but its going pretty good. Lost genoa but managed to recapture the southern town back from Hannibal. Laying siege to Taras and will be moving south to Sicily when that's done. I love this mod, managed to defend myself against superior gaul army and I managed to route in the last second and I just mowed them down with my remaining forces, but directly after they came with just a small stack of about 1000 troops, I had about 800 left by then. But since I had about 15 min to get to work I had to auto resolve it which ofcourse failed...So I have to redo that big former fight which I just won barely.

Remember to use the script and really, 2 battles against gauls are not even a warm-up

Yes I got the script going, only besieged the towns, I don't dare attacking the full garrison yet probably won't win it . The gauls are making me nervous, I need to recruit another legion to defend northern border and maybe merge my 2 southern ones I guess 2 would be needed for city assault? New gov building is done soon so I can train other units then Hastati.

Just remember to activate script EVERYTIME you load the game or you can face troubleez. And about legions. Well, if I may suggest, push them back north and take the city under Darantasia and also cities along shore up to southern France. Or anything with a gold mine. Such mine can pay for single legion in field, heck almost 2 if you have good governor there!
Troops are never enough, focus on military in north and economy in south. That is good way to start off. Legions should be plenty. I used to have about 6 to 10 deployed in north against Gauls and Germans.

Ok, currently got 2 legions in north and 2 in the south only. Just got my gov building up and building the barracks so I can train new principes and triarii (finally). The gauls attacked my worn down force and I only had about 40 Equites left in that stack, made the fight hard, they kept harassing me with skirmishers as I had no cavalry to send so I lost more men than I had to . So right after that I recruited 2 mercenary cavalries, they definately are a must. But after reading the tactics/formations threads around here my fights are becoming much much easier, the only ones giving me a headache now are the Spartan hoplites, take forever to kill even if they are surrounded.

To fight Spartan Hoplites, you need to use skirmishers like figthing elephants...

Do not use fire at will, micromanage them to shoot from behind.
