Something minor, for the competition:
The Foot Cuirassiers of Servaínne were, during the great civil war between the loyalist and rebellious provinces of Hzaar's Empire, repeatedly called up to the front ranks as an assault formation - the only proper infantry able to face a rain of bullets and carry through a full-scale bayonet attack unbroken. After one particularily bloody battle in the Mithaneans, the scattered remnants of one battered Foot Cuirassier regiment knelt down on the hill they had captured from the enemy, and prayed. Virtually everyone - wounded, dying, even enemies that had surrendered - threw away their helmets and, if they had any such left, weapons, and took part in paying tribute to the merciful gods above.
