Would anyone be interested in expanding this mod to include Ireland and Scotland? I myself will not have the time nor the experience to mod this, but would anyone be willing to do this?
I have been playing this mod for a while now, and find it to be practically the only currently released mod (of all Total War games) that caters properly to the "pike and shot" era. In particular, the English Civil War. It is the MTW 2 mod that I love the most.
I would also love to see someone take up the challenge to add Scotland and Ireland factions to this mod. Without them, it isn't really complete. I know that the developer of the mod never intended them to be in. But without them, there is a huge unfilled space in the mod.
For what it is worth, here are my thoughts on what could be implimented, to offer a more substantial re-creation of the English Civil Wars. What I am suggesting below is all centred on custom battles - which is far less work to impliment than for campaign play purposes.
To facilitate the Second English Civil War, the ownership of the Scots Covernanter units, and the artillery, could be made available to an activated Scotland faction. They could also be used as the Scottish contribution in a Montrose army. Perhaps, for the Montrose army, the Covernanter battle standards could be exchanged for Royalist battle flags.
The Irish armies of the often called "Third Civil War" (Irish Confederate Wars) could be created under the "slave" faction. Duplicated and re-named Royalist units could pass for Irish troops, both in Ireland and for the Irish regiments of the Montrose army. Again, battle standards could be reworked for the "shared" units. And, if someone with a few texturing skills were willing, some very unique flags could be created for these new armies to use (Irish and Montrose).
And for the people who like to explore those "what if" scenarios - perhaps a Welsh army might be fun to have in custom battles. I quite like the flag with the yellow cross on a black field. After all, everyone else was revolting !!
best wishes

That level of copy & change work could be done very quickly. It would be a good first time project for someone looking to get involved in modding.
The problem is the map ...
It was never my intention to simulate anything other than the conflict in England and Wales. The map was built with the English civil war in mind and the inclusion of Eastern Ireland was purely to accommodate the S.W of England. The map could be expanded to the East and to the North relatively easily (by someone with mapping experience), but expanding West or South would mean a complete map rebuild. A lot of work. The other reason I didnt add the Irish was mainly because Sieges had proved to be uneventful and very dull, most of the Irish campaign was siege work as the Irish refused to fight on the field and instead withdrew behind their city walls, hence the bloody slaughter at sieges like Drogheda.
Good luck to anyone looking to expand the map and include more factions. The Scots made use of longbows and crossbows aswell as so there's scope for some genuinely interesting units.
Cheers
Just noticed this, For King or Country has always been one of my favourite mods, if anyone wants to use the map of the British isles we have for our mod GSTK please feel free to do so, it has 199 regions and covers the whole of the British isles. It should be a fairly simple process to make it run in for King or Country.

Hello All,
AlphaDelta - thank you for adding to this discussion. Any advice you give is greatly valued. alexandre dumas is doing some great things to keep this mod alive, by adding extra scenarios. Current contributions by leonn, and others (including myself), show how this mod still attracts attention. I have been checking this mod for additions, each time I visit the forums, for quite a while now. From the interest sparked by just a couple of posts, I believe this mod could be far from dead - and at the moment, simply just lying dormant. Patiently waiting to have its great potential fully realised. And I'm sure there are many who would like nothing better than to see that happen.
Lord Flasheart's generous offer (above) of the map from the GSTK mod, is fantastic, and would save a great deal of time and effort for anyone wanting to extend the campaign game. If anyone were willing to take on the task of extending the campaign game into Scotland and Ireland (and perhaps adding Wales as a fictional faction), I'm sure it would be much appreciated by all.
Speaking for myself only, I am quite content with custom/historical battle availability. And that is my main focus. I have done a bit of dabbling in mods for other games, as well as MTW2 - mostly centred on data changes in text files. I am not new to data editing in text files, and I have attempted "sharing" units with other factions. But my attempts to do that with the "battle_models.modeldb" file have been unsuccessful - every time. I have studied the tutorials, and just cannot see what I am doing wrong. So at this stage, I am probably not going to be much help in that department. Though I have seen more than enough to know, that for someone who knows what they are doing, sharing out the existing units to other factions is not a big task to undertake.
There is still a great deal of potential for expansion in this mod. AlphaDelta has done a fantastic job to create that potential, and it would be a great shame to waste it. Thinking outside the box, for anyone with some modelling/animating/texturing talent, the addition of a Montrose and/or Scotland army would create a need for adding a clansman with targe, sword, and pistol/arquebus. It wouldn't be a necessity - but would certainly add some "flavour" to such an expansion.
I do understand that the Irish Confederate Wars involved a lot of siege warfare, but there were several "out in the open" battles. And that creates the historical base - which can theoritically be expanded with ficticious scenarios - and unlimited custom battles.
MTW 2 is still very relevant, generates a lot of interest, and is a great "playing field" for modders. And importantly, is still the main focus of anything remotely involving the definitive "pike and shotte" era - which seems to have been substantially overlooked by CA. Some of the best tabletop gaming photos I have seen, centre on the "pike and shotte" era of warfare. With FKoC, AlphaDelta has provided a magnificent base for expansion - into all the wars of the 17th century. Many of his existing units only need to allocated to another faction, and have new unit cards, and info cards.
P.S. I forgot to mention that I am using the Kingdoms conversion of the mod, by shakesword.
best wishes to all
