    Default Use of artillery

A question concerning a pet hatred of mine: in RS2 is there some limit in place to prevent less advanced factions building artillery-heavy stacks? It's really annoying to fight barbarians deploying Scorpions and Onagors the crews of whcih seem very overpowered.

I know the heavy artillery is a new unit, but is there some way to disuade the AI from building too many?

There's no way to force the AI to recruit or not recruit any particular unit.

By heavy artillery unit you mean Large Lithobolos, right? If yes, barbarians aren't able to recruit them, only Romans and Greeks. And in RSII you will see armies with artillery units rarely (at least thats my experience), but if you do they will have mostly a unit of ballista or scorpions, some major Greek factions (Macs, Seleucids) maybe with a Lithobolos... barbarian armies with artillery - unlikely.

But do the barbarians even have access to any artillery at all? And is it possible to get the Lithbolos as mercenaries in Sicily, that would be pretty cool

What about increasing recruitment and upkeep costs (I'd suggest quadrupling them), or removing the faction name (and thus their ability to recruit it) from export_descr_unit.txt under the artillery piece entry in question.
"The only question that remained was whether the founders knew the final result of their creation, or if they themselves where the victims of a misunderstanding.
In the latter case it was the duty of any thinking human, to press himself into the front of this depraved movement, to perhaps still prevent the extreme, in the former case the founders of this peoples disease must have been true devils; for only in the brain of a monster - not of a human - could the plan for an organisation take meaningfull form, whose purpose must lead toward the end result of a collapse of human culture and thus to the desolation of the world.
In this case only battle remained as a means of final delivery, battle with any weapons that the human mind, intellect and will are able to comprehend, regardless, of whom fate would gift with it's blessing."

They're already pretty high. Higher than a lot of professional infantry. I think that's why us beta testers haven't seen many of them used. The Romans seem to make use of ballista's but I haven't encountered much other than that for field artillery. What are you basing your suggestion of quadruple costs on?

Yes, the Barbarians have access to some of the artillery. The Lithbolos are limited to Rome and Greek so I don't believe they will be available as mercenaries.

M aybe if you had it so that Barbarians only have access to artillery when they reach a certain province limit to simulate the various regional tribes being unified and organised enough to be able to manufacture artillery.
