Default Avoiding the Empire? 1450 Campaign

    Hello!

first off, great mod to a great mod PB - Hats off to you and all the other contributors.

    now the story -

so, its been just over a year since ive had mtw2 installed, just got a new cpu and desided to revisit my personal favorite of the series, desided that id try the turks, as i havent played em previously.

started a 1450 campaign, noticed that the indepenant's were neutral to me, makes life easier, wanted to go turtle mode anyhow, see what nations ai's acted agressively etc. Took constantiople as early as possible, picked up alliance with both moors and egypt asap, got lucky with a few crusades (first was Jerusalem, second was somewhere in poor lithuania) started a Jihad deep into HRE's teritory, which egypt pulled off somehoow.

by this time my original sultan is getting long in the tooth, i cobble together as much of an army i can, along with a bunch of agents.. and sail em off to rome for his retirment. Spy's open the gates, Assasins take out the towers and after much nail biting .. Rome is now a Turkish settlement. THE NEXT TURN.. my turtle campaign turns into complete, and utter madness.. the Ottoman Empire has been born, all of ejypts cities become mine, all the troops that can transfer over do so.. and i now have a complete mess to clean up. What i find really weird about it is that Ejypt had many more settlements then i, and yet.. that didnt matter.

currently, the mongols have just declared war, i have more settlments that need stuff then i have money to build with, the Cumans are on thier way.. (and i have no idea where all thier troops came from - was that scripted?) but are at peace for now.. Veinna is now the Papal States capital, as i gave it to them for a cease fire, and thought it might be interesting if they were in the middle of a few wars.

so.. i have multiple saves.. the question is, was that whole Empire take over deal avoidable? didnt see it in the missions.. didnt realize it was going to happen (nice surprise that.. but only in a way) and sure as heck wasnt prepared for it obviously. Would like to split off the campaigns, set up one set of saves for post empire and one for no empire if it is possible to avoid....

almost forgot.. LOVE the Aor/local troop and mercenary set up, gives the game a lot more "flavour" or at least variety to troops. did notice that the Turks seem not to get any mounted gunmen at all.. unless i am missing something? is there an easy way to add say camel gunners or just some reiters w/o editing modeldb etc?

Yep it scripted, its not funny if your one of the Turks neighbours, As you suddenly have a ravening beast of an empire being born next door!

so there is no way to avoid it?

can imagine the consternation it would cause if you were another nation..

heck, just trying to manage that many troops all over is a bit overwhelming in and of itself.. turns are taking forever to go through do to micro management.

if there is no way to avoid it.. can the script itself be disabled ? and would i need to start a new campaign for the script change to take effect? (bit obsessive about saves, have quite a few from before the event itself)

was really looking forward to a nice, slowwww game, trying to play various nations against themselves but not quite as isolated as england.. even helped out against the crusades by creating choke points and killing off armies for my allies.

would like to see how well the ai controled fatimid caliphate (spelling > me and my dyslexia) would fair against the soon to be huge mongols, or if they were going to eventually backstab me etc.

dont get me wrong, still fun.. but in a totally differant way then what i planned

1450 campaign is a hack, and that's being generous.

    blearg.

so i picked the wrong faction, or the wrong campaign? wanted a bit more advanced start and quicker gunpowder.. should have just modded the events =/

anyhow, back to the question.. are scripts save-compatible? going to see if i can find it and eliminate it.. but not enough scripting knowledge to understand what else i might destroy.

Personally i really liked the idea of the 1450 start date, one of my biggest complaints on empire was that it started too late.. or should have included an earlier campaign that better signified the change in tactics with the advent of gunpowder technology, and improvements thereof.

Yes but if you play the late campaign your waiting almost 250 turns for gunpowder troops, which can get a little tedious. Unfortunately every 1450 campaign turns into a "Stop the Turks" race as soon as they become the ottoman empire.

yeah if there was an easy way to remove it I would, its a bit of a pain.

Scripted emergence of the Ottoman Empire?

Yeah in the 1450 campaign you get notification that after a big battle the Ottoman Turks have taken control of Mamaluke lands, this gives them about 60 territories, and puts them within a hair breath of winning the game. Its fun the first time, but after a while it gets old when you got to stop slapping English long bows around and race over to the other side of the world to stop the ottomans.

It's really fun when it happens and you're the Byzantines...

    Makes life really, really interesting.
Do note, the same thing happens with Spain, as Leon and Castile absorb the Crown of Aragon. What I'm curious about is this, what happens if you are playing as the Egyptians/Aragon when they get taken over?

+Rep for anyone who can translate! (The above)

you lose the game. happened to me with Aragon.
I wish there's a way to avoid all that takeover thing.

    hmm

so help me out folks - where would the take over scripts be? and are the scripts files save compatible?

could i just emiminate said events in the event file? assuming the event file is not save compatible.

guessing it would just be easier to start over and change the event times for gunpowder troops in the late campaign?
