    Default Choosing more "historical" cities?

    Hello,

I just saw the map of this great Mod and found out that some cities can be replaced by more historical ones.

    Some examples:
    - Jidda -> Makka (The holiest city in Islam, where the Kaaba is built, it can be very interesting if you'll add wonders to the Mod... It's not complicated and will add a lot of realism and fun)
    - Riyadh -> Hajr Al-Yamama (or simply Al-Yamama, which is the name of a famous historical city there. Riyadh is the name of the new city built on the ancient Al-Yamama site in the 18th century)
    - Sfax -> Al-Qayrawan (aka Kairouan, first city build by Muslims in the Maghreb, was the capital of the Aghlabids) or Al-Mahdiya (named after Al-Mahdi, was the capital of the Fatimids before they moved to Egypt)
    - Benghazi -> Barqa (Benghazi is a newish name for the city, Barqa was more used in the medieval times)

    What do you think?

We have all those in our most recent region/city plan. The problem is that our promotional stuff info is not all up to date.

I've run into this confusion before. Evidently there was a different Hajr that was destroyed by the Qarmations that was further east and a new city was built near the site that would later be Riyadh. I'm not absolutely positive though because the sources are confusing.

    What is sotd?

Okay, the one in yellow was Hajar and it was destroyed by the Qarmatians in 899. I think it was rebuilt as al-Hasa. The one in yellow was also called Hajar al-Yamamah. It was between Wadi Hanifa, Wadi al-Arid, and Wadi al-Batha (modern names) so that is in Nejd. I looked on Google Maps and found that there is still a place in eastern Riyadh called Hajar al-Yamamah:

On the topic of Arabian cities, will there be any cities in the center of Arabia, in the middle of the peninsula, or will you not be able to move across it like in Broken crescent?

Al Yamamah is toward the middle. There is also Fayd which was at the midway point on the route between Mekka and Kufa. That's what I can think of at the moment, but I'm sure there were many small settlements along the trade routes that can be represented as PSFs. Central Arabia was lightly populated but it was traversable.
