This is a bit of a long shot but I thought I'd give it a try! When I was younger I used to rent a film and I can't remember for the life of me what it's called. I'm hoping somebody else here may have seen it and can give me the title.
Here are some things I can remember:
- It's set in World War 2.
- It's set around an American infantry unit.
- It's Christmas time (very snowy).
- The Americans take shelter in an abandoned manor type place.
- There's a scene at night where two American soldiers are sitting in a foxhole and something lands next to them. They freak out thinking it's a grenade but it turns out to be a snowball thrown by the Germans.
- They befriend a German patrol, as it's Christmas and everybody is happy families.
- I seem to remember the Germans singing 'O Tannenbaum' at night.
- Edit: I think it's towards the end of the war and the Germans know they're going to lose, so they set up a truce with the Americans.
- They organise a meeting with the Germans, and when they meet both sides fire shots in the air (a sort of pretend battle I think). Then one of the Americans (who went a bit wrong in the head) started shooting all the Germans. Both sides then start shooting at eachother and all the Germans end up dead. Quite a sad ending if I remember correctly.
That's all I can remember I'm afraid. It wasn't a very old film, probably 80's at the earliest. Sorry if I'm a bit hazy on the details, I was pretty young when I watched it. It must be about 10 years ago now.
Thanks in advance!
