Hi, just need to know the difference between the British Lifeguard Horse and the Royal Horse Guards. In-terms of their actual and historical roles...

    Thank you.

The Life Guards were a Royalist troop of cavalry raised by King Charles II while he was in exile. The Royal Horse Guards are a descendant of the "Blues" a troop of cavalry raised by the Parliamentarians for the New Model Army.

In short, Life Guards were a Royalist regiment while the Royal Horse Guards were a Parliamentarian regiment.

Yes both performed heavy cavalry roles, donning helmets and breastplates and used as shock cavalry. The Life Guards were also created as a regiment of mounted guardsmen to compliment the 1st Foot Guards and perform in royal ceremonies and guard the assets of the monarchy. However the Blues were not so much a ceremonial regiment when they were first raised I dont think.

There's some short info here but plenty more around the web
    http://www.napolun.com/mirror/napole...sh_cavalry.htm

I don't believe it ! Napoleonstycka site praising the British for once, saying the British and Russian Guard cavalry were the best the Allies had.
