Default Massive heist in E.V.E. Online

    http://eve.klaki.net/heist/

There's a corporation (i.e. a guild) in EVE apparently that specializes in bounty hunting. So about a year ago they're hired to kill the CEO (i.e., guild leader) of a massive and wealthy corporation and destroy as many assets as possible. So they infest ever tier of his corporation with informants, and a few months ago all of this culminated in one of the most massive and devastating acts of infamy in any MMO. Read more in the link.

Personally, this makes me REALLY want to buy EVE Online.

Ya, i play eve online, its an EXCELLENT game. Far better than WoW or anything like that, the players control everything.

Their was another fantasy game like this called Shadowbane but that was dont wrong in many ways Eve does things right.

Freeform MMORPGs like this is exactly what the genre is supposed to be, every other game you might as well play NWN online.

edit: i've been playing games like this for a while, believe me this isn't the only thing that can be made into a movie. I can think of a few of my own going back to Ultima Online, lol. Hell even some MUDS.

    Necropost!

I got a 14-day trial for EVE Online yesterday (you can get them from Penny Arcade) and so far it's pretty damn cool. Though the tutorial lasts forever, jumping from place to place is incredibly dull, and when I killed the pirates people kept stealing my damn loot.

I lurk in Penny Arcade's forums all the time. The leader of the Guiding Hand Social Club, Istvaan Shogaatsu, posts there all the time. That's how I heard about this. Also how I came to start playing the game, and so far I have to say it's an excellent game, and vastly underrated.

The game only costs about 20 bucks retail; you can even buy it through the official website, using CC or paypal. Compared to other contemporary MMO's, this is a steal.

I played EVE when it was launched. It felt to me like a Virtual Mining Simulation and nothing more. I suppose that's changed a bit?

It's pretty cool for the atmosphere it creates. It doesn't seem that unique, but then again, I haven't even finished the (REALLY REALLY REALLY LONG) tutorial yet.

I've started doing missions though ... I blew up a drone and carried radioactive waste around as proof I blew it up. Ooooo...kay. Agent wants radioactive waste, I give him radioactive waste.

My only complaint is I could go read War and Peace and skim through the dictionary while waiting for the jumps to complete.

There is alot more to it then that the problem is you need to invest quite a bit of time to get to the 'good' stuff. Its basically giant galaxy you are tossed into without alot of direct which is why the game is so popular because you arent prevented from playing the way you want. Want to be a trader (ie old Elite style) then you can go do that but you'll need build your little trading empire up into a power house...want to conquer the galaxy? Sure set out and do it, build stations, claim as much of the galaxy as you can actually defend and protect it. All of these things gonna require you work with people to achieve them since you cant expect to control large parts of a galaxy solo after all Its a really deep game and has quite a bit of learning curve and first thing people think when they first try it is "mining...is that it?" because you are tossed in fairly safe area of space meanwhile systems away large corporations are waging galatic wars for control of valuable systems. Eve isnt an instant gratification game and not really for weak of heart who get easily mad or if you dont play well with others. Best way to describe Eve is a long term really large RTS with thousands of other players. Some players are the peons who go fetch the resources, some are the builders who construct all the things to control your terrority and some people are the soldiers who defend it and a few people are the leaders. Thing is you cant leapfrog, you cant log in and become that leader instantly.

My only complaint is I could go read War and Peace and skim through the dictionary while waiting for the jumps to complete.
Yeah when traveling thru safe space thats true, trying to travel thru 0.3 to 0.0 space though (where the most valuable things are of course) is another story

Ya I was in BETA and it was terrible then, huge improvement. They really listen to what the players want.

When I get some free time later, I'm going to try the WoW trial and now I'm guessing this. I'm also waiting for another MMORPG called Dark and Light where there's supposedly a massive world, where players can rise to becomes knights and even kings of their own kingdoms. It gave me a desire to be an evil warmongering emperor who'll bring the entire service under my heel causing a rebellion that eventually topples my corrupt reign and takes over, leading to a few years of peace, then a bunch of splinter kingdoms making life worse then when I was there, while I sit there laughing on an island they exiled me to...

Yes I HATE MMORPGS that make you buy like 10 boxes just to pay monthly for the game. Sony is a fan of that, which is why they are starting to do terribly.

Pfsh. The Online marketplace or whatever they hell they call the items-for-USD service for EQ2 trumps that a thousand times over. I mean, how low can you get?

    Welcome to cyberpunk.

This is totally funny. I would like to hear the Mirial's opinion on this though. What is she going to do now? She may be the only person who knows where this is coming from. Could be a real world vendetta. Broken heart?

So what about it people? Let's join and establish a law-abiding TWC corporation, hunting down bad guys like guiding hand. My suggestion for a name would be "space cohorts". The other players might pay handsomely for some kind of "space patrol" Is it possible to build whole NATIONS? (Transforming the entire TWC into Eve online? Too expensive, but neat) Are there laws to follow? Is there any kind of political organization? With thousands of players, it should be possible to build not only corps bu

I have actually never played it, but the game seems ripe for that. As The Escapist writes: "There are no safety nets." Will somebody install one? A safety net like THE LAW? If there would be immediate consequences, acts like these would become more difficult, and more thrilling. Right now the criminals are just another corp, but then a mafia like structure would probably emerge.
