    Considering default battle time is an hour, army size is something like 2000, for an era for multi-day battles with 100,000+ armies, it seems like a good scaledown to me.

    Well what cannons are you using and what is the difficulty settings. That is something you do need to take into consideration.

    I use EiC and my buildings last ages...

    Infact since using EiC, i'm more confident of putting my skirmishers in buildings... the enemy artillery focuses on them and while they're distracted... i can take them out.
