EU3 wont work

I bought EU3 complete on Steam but when I start it,it ctd at "Map properly initialised...".I have up to date drivers,I went and got the demo and had the exact same problem.
Please help.

What resolution are you trying to use? I used to get CTD's right after "Map properly initialized" for two reasons with every Paradox game. Their games don't support resolutions under 1024x768 iirc and/or a refresh rate under 60. Unfortunately, my DLP I use as my computer monitor won't support anything over a refresh rate of 30 using the HDMI connector, so for PI games I have to use the standard VGA cable and run the games in low res.

As an aside, I'd edit the part about the torrent out of the op.

I normally play at 1980x1080 but my refresh rate is 60.

Make sure DirectX9 is installed. Even if you have a higher version already installed, you NEED DX9 as well.

This. DirectX 10 and up dumps some features of 9c. Unfortunately, EU3 needs those features to run and will crash at the map initialising stage if it can't find them.

had a similar problem concerning video codecs. One of the codec packs I had installed did replace the one EU3 used and whenever the game switched in mode at certain stages it crashed. If you get an info on what file causes the crash, check that. It may indicate wether it is DirectX or a codec or something else. It was quite a goose chase for me till I realized that the error message pointed to a codec file.
