Y'know, I've always wanted someone to make a really good Epic based off the Battle of Verdun, or Tannenberg. Or Grunwald. Or Lake Peipus. It's a shame they don't make epics out of semi-obscure battles and wars.

The only one out there about it is "Alexander Nevsky" and it's unlikely they're gonna make any other.

there is all quite on teh western front that could have been anywhere on the western front including verdun. Tannenburg ( im guessing the ww1 battle not the roman one) would be a cool plot for a movie. It would have all of the good parts of a movie/book about ww1 without those wating in the trench scene

personally ide like to see a eaither a good roman movie ( about someone like ceasar, scipio, krass even) or a good crusades movie.

im a little rusty on my russian histroy ( living in america for 10 years will do that to you) but wasent ALexander Nevsky the Russian prince who was finaly able to break from the mongols and was the first to establish himself as a king of Moscow?

Or Teutoberg Wald. I'd rather see a movie on the Roman defeat in Germany than another movie on Gladiators. With Varus seeing his men getting whiped out, the mystical and scary atmosphere in the forrests, the warcries of the Germans, the last stand, the suicide of Varus, Augustus saying 'Varus, give me back my legions!'

There is already a movie called the 300 which is about that very battle and in the list above a remake is being done, staring Gerard Butler who has also played other historical figures such as Atilia the Hun.

Personal I want to see the Last legion and 300. I wouldn't mind a remake Waterloo as well.

    This is worth a sticky.

I still think they should make a movie on the 7 week long seige of Constantinople. That seige was a true epic.

What? 7 weeks, I don't think people want to view a monster cannon bombard the walls of constantinopel all the time...

The best people to star in "Viking" themed movies must be the Icelandics, they speak almost like the vikings did back then! Just a little adjustment

Boudicca , the epic about the Celtic Queen and her 100,000 strong army that oh so nearly threw the Romans back into sea in 55BC (Invasion of Britain). Randall Wallace and Mel Gibson are apparently teaming up again for yet another sword and gorefest. Details being thrashed out this year and shooting to begin next year I heard.

"Australian troops had, at Milne Bay, inflicted on the Japanese their first undoubted defeat on land. Some of us may forget that, of all the allies, it was the Australians who first broke the invincibility of the Japanese army."

Hells yes! She would be just the right age and build for that too. Just needs to do something about getting her hair red.

Wasn't there a Polish movie about Tannenberg called Krzyzacy? Dammit why can't we ever get a pro-Teutonic Knights movie? They were, after all, responsible for the conquest of what would become the great Nation of Prussia. They fought long and hard in the Northern Crusades, almost invariably outnumbered by savage Lithuanians and their allies. There really should be a movie......but an updated Alexander Nevsky would be just as nice I think, especially if it showed both sides equally.

I don't know what anyone else thinks, but the Vin Diesel Hannibal movie looks like it has all the makings of a bomb. I mean, Vin freaking Diesel. I don't think I could think of any actor I would want less to make a movie about Hannibal. First off, he doesn't strike me as having the intellectual capacity for real research. The chief writer worked on King Arthur and Gladiator, not exactly the most historically accurate movies...

I'm already picturing napalm elephants, Roman legionaries straight out of the 2nd Century AD, Stephen Seagal as Scipio Africanus, Vin slicing Romans in half with a little short sword....oh the horror.

    Dude, it's IMDB.

    IMDB.

The same guys who said 50 cent would be playing Epona in Twilight princess and Eminem playing Mr Coates in Advent Children.

But anyway, Vin Diesel is awesome. I think if it was Vin Diesel back in 216 bc he could kick Roman ass all by himself. He is that hard.
