Back when we had that Cold War going on, music was excellent because the nuclear war could break out anytime so people wanted to make entertainment worth it.

Since the mid 90s music declined and now where at a bottom when it comes to the audiovisual arts.

Considering the options to make Music great again, we could do a purge (much like Stalin did) off all mainstream artists, then we have a void which will be filled with musical geniuses and from there on things would become excellent.

Also, we need to bring back Moog Synthesizers because they are rad!

No offence, but most of the 80's sucked big time. And that's during the cold war.

Most of it was good and had good impact on the human mind, you cant however say that about todays music... which makes people very negative minded.

Seems to be a symptom of the human condition to consider things better in the past, there is allot of excellent music in the present. In fact if you been following the less mainstream areas of music i'd say 2005 - 2010 has been an incredibly fertile time for music in general. It been the 5 years in which people have finally begun to bridge the gap between traditional instruments and electronic instruments, it's been the years in which genre pigeon-holing is beginning to collapse in many areas.

That said it's also been the years in which N-Dubz and Soujaboy we're created.

no idea what ur talking about.

my main tastes tends to be in dnb and dubstep these days - and as ur bigging up the 70s (meh, 80s was mostly shite, some good rock ballads though and some other groovy stuff - hot tub time machine has helped repair my dislike for all things 80s), u will most likely despise both of the above genres and their many, many sub-genres and thus disregard them...but there's a hell of a lot of innovation in there.

other clubby-minded stuff as well that is not 'negative'...i mean wtf; where we u during the raving craze? House is nothing but positive!

Except for Motorhead I hate all those groups, and I don't like Motorhead that much either.
But I was thinking more of the awful pop music from the era.

I absolutely love Joy Division though.

New Wave changed the American culture too. It came from the hippie style of the 60s and the metal of the 70s into a style of glamor. Sure a lot of stuff was crap but we have people like

Genesis (and later Phil Collins solo)
    Depeche Mode
    Erasure
    New Order
    Eurythmics
    Talking Heads
    Gary Numan
    Devo
    Men At Work
    Peter Gabriel
    Tears for Fears
    The Police
    Duran Duran
    R.E.M.
    Blondie
    Huey Lewis and the News

then of course the hair bands

    All good stuff

the 80s had good music. Most people who think the 80s had terrible music hasn't listened to very much 80s music at all i had the same opinion of 80s music until i started listening to it.

The pop music of the 80s is just as bad as the pop music from any era. That is the most common music you will hear from any era.

Modern "rock" type music is terrible for the most part. It is mostly unskilled musicians singing in douchebag voices while smashing their instruments in unison such as this:

I know not all modern rock music is not like this obviously but this garbage is what is popular. Back in the day pop-rock type music would at least have people who had talent.

Your entire argument is invalidated by the fact you've used Arcade Fire as an example of bad music.
