rome total war gold resolution

Hello,
I own Rome Total War Gold. But every time i want to set the resolution to 1920x1080 the screen gets black and there appear a message:

DVI
AUS. SPEZIFIKATIONF
33,7kHz/30Hz

after this message the resolution returned. I own Medieval II to and there the resolution works finel
my system:

LG Flatron W2261V with resolution 1920x1080x32 and 60Hz
GTX 260
Windows Vist 64bit

btw - is it because of your high resolution that you now can't read the text and thus you have to make so big letters now?
