    Default Protectorate

Basically, like i said in my other thread, Greece in my game can stomp all over me if it wants to, i am also at war with Egypt, which is a massive power in its own right. Both constantly want me to become their protectorate and i'm considering accepting for Greece just to stop them from stomping on me. I would like to know about becoming a protectorate first though.

What is entailed in becoming a protectorate?
    How does it effect me?
What are the negatives and positives?
Finally, what is everybody elses opinion on becoming a more powerful nations protectorate?

There was a campaign I played where the Seleucids kept asking me to become a protectorate over and over, finally I started counteroffering with them paying me 10-20k. They would lay siege the next turn, and a couple turns later, the process would repeat. I think I bled them out of a quite a few denarii while using the money to crush them.

If you have no other choice, if you are really crushed by the greeks accept. If you still have a chance and an army, territories, allies don't. Protectorate should be your last solution. (My opinion).
Protectorate is useful if you have no chances left. You have to pay half ok but you can take time to rebuild an army and then just shove them back off. But since you lose half your denarii's its long.

I'd say death or glory :sparta:

But really if only you have no other choice (like really really, desperately no other choice) you might consider becoming protectorate of other nation but only to rebuild a great army to crush them (like really really crush them, chain their leaders behind your chariots and mark your borders with their blood kind of crush)

only do it if your in huge debt and getting destroyed (I did it as Venice in M2TW and became the Holy Roman Empires vassal, and it allowed me to pay off my debt make alliances with other country, build up my army, and then once they Holy Roman Empire betrayed me I had so many connections i could call a crusade on their capital. For RTW its the same principle, just build alliances with other powerful factions and build up economy and army.

I always get attacked by my "protectors" the turn after I accept. Don't.

Well it really all depends on your financial situation. If your losing thousands off your income and getting pooned, what I would honestly do is mass my troops and find a new homeland and start anew, but that would cost plenty in your upkeep of troops.

But, you can accept it only to build up another army, and beat the poop out of them. That is, if your economy can withstand it.

I wish you could ask to become a protectorate sometimes.
