    Default Tips to get Protectorates?

    Well, i've been trying multiple things to get other factions to be my protectorate;
    Killed off ALL their units and took all (except 1) Region;
    Been REALLY nice;
    Several diplomatic Offers.

    So i Never had a Protectorate, Not at Rome, Not at Empire.

    Anything that might help?

    Use the Forced Diplomacy option the AI never accepts protectorates you offer.

    If you use the Forced Diplomacy option wisely, such as proposing a good term with the enemy like you give them 40.000 denarii etc. for protectorates it's not cheating it's just making the diplomacy a bit more realistic, or else the AI would demand that you'd return all settlements and give a billion denarii while they break the protectorateship the next turn... Forced Diplomacy is not cheating if you use it well.

    I had one with Spain once. I offered them a single city and they became a Protectorate.
    I did so because for some bizzare reason, Spain had a fleet bigger than any other faction, and I didn't want to face all those pirates hanging outside all my ports.

    Though i haven't experimented much with gaining vassals, i do know if you give them enough money they will just about do anything, i think its even feasible that you can bribe the Pope into giving your general a Lap-dance.

    Ok i retract that statement, i just offered 200,000 denars + regions + map-info to Ejypt and this is what they had to say "The wise and Belligerent Pharaoh sees no reason to stop the fighting just yet" and that was just for a Ceasefire, you can imagine the crap he fed me when i tried to Vassal him.

    How about for reasons such as you have 50 men left against my 180,000 ... man diplomacy sucks bad in Rome.

    Yeah, I am finding that i actually like battles in RTW better than M2TW but just about everything relating to the campaign map is worse in RTW

    And thats why i started playing MP -_-

    either way folks by the time a faction is so weak that it becomes a protectorate you should just conquer the lil es.

    Same here,

    Rome combat system = Win
    Rome campaign map and Diplomacy = Failure

    If Romes Combat-physics-animations could be injected into M2TW i would be a very happy man.

    Try seiging their last city and blocking its port if it has one and offer generous terms before they sally. Doesnt always work but it has more than a few times.

    I have never had that cheat work for me. Does it only work with certain patches?

    I was once an Angel of Total War Heaven, but gave up my wings for a life on the sea of battle.

    Seems like Forced Diplomacy is the only option in RTW

    Vassalization is completely random, sometimes I've offered huge enemy empires the chance to become a protectorate and they've accepted even tho I was just blockading their port. It could be tied to you reputation and how much they like, becuase the more you conquer from an enemy the harder it seems to make them a protectorate.

    why would i need to propagandize something so obviously superio-- never mind. The thing is that to get a protectorate you usually have to bash em till they have one region. i was usually better off just capping em when i still did SP.

    I also never had chance to use that option in Vanilla, AI was just either too stupid or stubborn to accept my terms even when the option was most advantageous for them to make. But then I started playing Mods, and use Forced Diplomacy option. I don't use it as a way of cheat but only use it if I feel that it's the most obvious and logical choice for AI to make. An choice that I would make if I was in such a situation. Most people playing Vanilla don't get the chance to use Protectorate option.

    You need to download a script to use the force_diplomacy option. Follow the instructions.
