    Default Fixing up the 1220 campaign

    Let me just first say that I love the scope of the map and the factions included, still there is a lot of minor issues here that I am trying to improve upon. I would require some "how to" assistance though.
    I have not edited anything in a good while (couple of years) but I have taken a new interest in MTWII due to new mods and naturally I end up wanting to "fix" up the mods I play a little.

    These are the things I have currently done/in progress

    - Factions die out too quick, adding more named characters to each faction would help (done).

    - Add princesses to every faction that can (done).

    - Change Scandinavian names to be more Scandinavian (done).

    - Faction names i.e. "Novgorod Republic" -> "Republic of Novgorod", and similar (done).

    - Exterminate equals sack in cash gain (in progress, forgot the file).

    - Regions
    Adding some regions where I feel like it. Making the following regions (Scandi centric, I just want a longer unification war);
    Norway: Agder, Finnmark and Jemtland
    Sweden: Gotland, Vest-Götaland, Savolax
    Denmark: Holstein
    Novgorod: Karelia

    Existing regions ownership changes; Estonia (Novgorod->Denmark), Kola(Rebels->Novgorod), Laponia(Rebels->Sweden), Northern-Norway(Rebels->Norway)

    Adding more population to Denmark's cities to balance that they have received less new provinces than Sweden and Norway. (in progress)




    These are the things I have no clue how to fix myself. If anyone knows how, please let me know. Alternatively, if you wish to help with this little mini-mod, just let me know.


    - Add family trees to the factions missing it.

    - Add the Suez canal in a way that let's you sail through to the Indian Sea and still be able to cross there by land.

    - Face portraits for Norwegian captains and admirals look like Japanese anime characters, what happened to them?

    - Have Sweden and Bulgaria converted to Islam? Because their captains look like mullahs. I also discovered that I could recruit Pechnegs, Greeks and Romanians from Kalmar after I conquered it.

    - The AI is too stupid to use boats. In Denmark, Constantinople and Gibraltar they need to be able to cross by landbridges.

    - I have only tried this on one faction, but Norway did not seem able to recruit spies or assassins.

    - Everytime I try to edit descr_character.txt and reload the "1" script it seems what I have edited gets overwritten, even after I have made the textfile read only. I am trying to add movement points to agents and usually I can do this easily but I think the launcher in this mod is causing some problems.

    - Nicknames like "The Sure" and "The Fox" are bad enough, but "The CAT"? I am in terror fearing the possiblity of seeing "The Cow" and "The Donkey". Which textfile was this?

    - Everytime the Mongols conquer a Kwarezm town there pops up an info telling me that Mali has lost a town. That's a big typo...

    - Remove Scandinavian Foot Ridder. Just increase stats for Scandinavian Men at Arms instead (though increase upkeep price on it).

    - Get back the "Sami Axemen". Once that is done I can rename them to "Huskarls", rename the Huscarls to "Mounted Axemen" and rename the "Dismounted Huscarls" to "Norse Axemen".



    And a subject of it's own...
    Mongols

    Mongols look and talk like Muslims, the portraits could be replaced like Kypchaks in Broken Crescent, I believe it was with Mongols or Eastern Europeans from MTWI and it was much more suiting than them looking like imams.

    I have managed to power up the Mongols - 100,000 king's treasury, only to pay for the 20 full stacks they start with. Still balancing this. Also going to make them start with horrible relations with any Eastern European faction up to including HRE. This might get things going. Each of the 20 stacks is led by 7+ stars generals. If they don't reach HRE by 1240 this time I will simply add more stacks and more money, also considering overpowering their units.

    Hello, I think that the factions missing the family tree are great the way they are, for example the holy roman empire do not have the need for a family free, for it consisted in several german princes united by a stronger prince.. just my point of view.

    The tutorials section has a variety of guides that tell you how to make mods.

    In my mod I've added various folders that contain different version of some files. Each campaign has it's own folder and if the files in these folder aren't modified then any changes will be overwritten when you try to start this mod.

    - Add family trees to the factions missing it.
    Many factions don't have family trees because they do not have herditary rulers, such as republics and the Holy Roman Empire; or when the ruler is constantly being replaced with indirect relatives, such as the late Moorish Dynasties.

    You can change this by editing the 'descr_sm_factions'

    - Add the Suez canal in a way that let's you sail through to the Indian Sea and still be able to cross there by land.
    This wasn't built until 1869. If you want to add it you'll need to edit the map files.

    This occurred because the vista version of the bat file couldn't copy the portraits correctly. I've fixed this in the latest version.

    Spy and assassins can only be recruited from their respective guilds, which can only be built in a city or better.

    You need to edit the files in the 'crusades' folder. These files are used to overwrite the files in the 1220 campaign.

    The names from traits are from another mod. They're in the 'text/export_vnvs.txt' file.

    An error in the campaign script meant the wrong pop-up was displayed. This will be fixed in the 2.1 version.

    Not sure why you want to do any of these. To make a unit unrecruitable you needs to remove if from the 'export_descr_buildings.txt'. If you want to add or remove units you need to edit the 'export_descr_unit.txt'. To rename a unit you need to edit the 'text/export_units.txt'.

    M2TW only has a limited number of sound files and portraits so unless you make some new ones they'll remain this way.

    You can also give cities the 'horde_target' attribute so hordes are more likely to attack them.

    Thank you, I was wondering why it had no effect... I will just remove some from Africa and put them in then

    Why? Did these factions control these regions in 1220.
    Denmark held Estonia from 1219 until it was sold to the Teutonic order in 1346.

    Northern Norway was part of Norway since the unification wars in the late 9th century.

    Laponia was not completely under Swedish control but I think less rebel territories make the game more interesting... Prevents the player from "rebel rushing".

    Kola was accounted as being part of Novgorod when King Håkon signed a treaty with Novgorod in the 1230's, but I cannot seem to find the information if it were under their control already in 1220. Then again, less rebel rushing is always better.

    Fixed it by replacing the Asian captain banners.

    Not sure why you want to do any of these. To make a unit unrecruitable you needs to remove if from the 'export_descr_buildings.txt'. If you want to add or remove units you need to edit the 'export_descr_unit.txt'. To rename a unit you need to edit the 'text/export_units.txt'.

    M2TW only has a limited number of sound files and portraits so unless you make some new ones they'll remain this way.
    It is done, Mongols now have Pagan portraits from MTW1
    As for the sound files, I will look into that later.

    Okay I'll add Estonia to Denmark in the 1220 and 1331 campaign and make it independent in the 1453 campaign as it became independent following the decline of the Teutonic Order in 1410.

    Northern Norway will be added to Norway in the 1220 and 1331 campaigns.

    Laponia will remain rebel until the 1453 campaign because it remained outside Swedish control for a long time.

    I've researched the Kola Peninsula and I plan to have it be rebel in the 1220 campaign but belong to Novgorod in the 1331 and 1453 campaigns because it wasn't until the 1326 treaty that Norway relinquished their claim over this area.

    Do I have to add their family tree, where would I do that. I've got this - http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=261912 - but I don't know which descr_strat file to edit, + is it possible to overhaul the Mongols family tree in Conquest, like in the tutorial

    Buddhism isn't a religion in the 1220 campaign, so you need to change the religion from 'buddism' to 'pagan' or the mod will crash.

    The Mongols already have a family tree in the 1220 campaign so you don't need to add one. You can make the Mongol family tree large if you want.

    To modify the 1220 campaign you need to edit the descr_strat in the 'crusades' folder. The start date in each descr_strat indicates which campaign it's for.

    Thanks, I had some big issues with my install so I did a fresh install and now its working.

    If I add new names I have to add them to descr_names.txt / descr_strat.txt and names.txt right. Is there anything else I should know about adding them in. (are there any limits or controls)

    The only other thing is to avoid names with spaces in them as they sometimes confuse M2TW. So you should use 'al_adem', rather than 'al adem'.

    I dont understand. Its still not working

    Default Re: Fixing up the 1220 campaign

    Now its not working at all, when I click start campaign it sends me back to the Single Player Menu. But if I change all the files back to their originals it works fine, so it must be something wrong with my modding.
    If I add my edited descr_names.txt, descr_sm_factions.txt and names.txt it still works and it adds the family tree. But as soon as I add my edited descr_strat.txt it has the above error. I made a few changes to the file but it still doesnt work. This is what it looks like right now.

    OK, now ive got the first two generations and part of the third working. The problem occurs when I add the 4 women from the 3rd generation.

    Everything works except when I add Sorghaghtani Beki. Could it be something wrong with her having two names. I've tried it as Sorghaghtani Beki and Sorghagtani_Beki, and her name is listed in both of the names files. Any suggestions?
