    Default [Amendment] Savior of TWC

    Proposer: Nikos
    Supporters:Legio,
    Large Awards
Large Awards are awarded for exceptional contribution to an area of the site. These awards must undergo a Curia vote as the minimum qualification for reception. Some large awards may be accompanied with display usergroups. A Large Award is defined visibly by a postbit icon greater than 40 pixels in both dimensions.

    Divus
To achieve apotheosis and Curia vote, the nominee must be supported by three fourths of non-abstaining elected members of the Consilium de Civitate. The nominee must have served as a Hexagon member (or previous equivalents), made a clear and distinguished contribution to the community and provided exceptional service to TWC in their capacity as an administrator. They cannot be nominated within three months of resigning.

Any Citizen can nominate a former Hexagon member and does so by PMing a Consilium de Civitate member. The Consilium de Civitate will create a thread within the Consilium de Civitate Forum to investigate the legitimacy of the nominee’s accolades. The Consilium de Civitate has the right to request any and all relevant material from the Staff to ascertain this, with the approval of the Hexagon Council. The Consilium de Civitate will discuss the nominee and his qualifications for at least a week before the vote is held.

Should the nominee receive the support of three fourths of non-abstaining Consilium de Civitate members, the Curator shall create a discussion in the Prothalamos lasting at least three days and then move the nomination to vote as per the procedure in Section 2 Article 3. The vote shall last one week and the nominee shall require a two-third majority of non-abstaining votes to become Divus. A nominee who fails the vote is not eligible to be nominated again for a six month period.

    Novus
To qualify for the Novus Staff Award, the nominee must have made exceptional contributions to the site in the capacity of a staff member. A member of any branch of Staff such as Technical Staff, Art Staff, Content Writer, Content Editor, Moderator, and Librarian are eligible to receive the Staff award, but must also meet the criteria to become a Citizen. His nomination must also be seconded by an elected member of the Consilium de Civitate.

Qualifying nominees shall have their nomination posted in the Prothalamos and then moved to vote as per the procedure in Section 2 Article 3. The poll will be opened for a period of one week and require a two-third majority of non-abstaining votes to achieve the award. If the nominee is not already a Citizen, the Rank will also be conferred upon them if passed. A nominee who fails to pass the vote is not eligible to be re-nominated until three months have passed.

    Opifex
To qualify for an Opifex award, the nominee must have made exceptional input to TW sections of the boards, either by modding or other contributions related to the TW section. A member of any Rank is eligible to receive an Opifex award, but must also meet the criteria to become a Citizen. His nomination must also be seconded by an elected member of the Consilium de Civitate.

Qualifying nominees shall have their nomination posted in the Prothalamos and will be moved to vote as per the procedure in Section 2 Article 3. Once moved to they shall be voted upon for a period of one week and require a two-third majority of non-abstaining votes to achieve the award. If the nominee was not already a Citizen, this Rank shall also be conferred upon them if they pass. A nominee who fails to pass his vote is not eligible to re-nominated until three months have passed.

    Phalera
To qualify for a Phalera award, the nominee must have made exceptional input or otherwise made significant contributions to non-TW sections of the boards. A member of any Rank is eligible to receive an Phalera award, but must also meet the criteria to become a Citizen. His nomination must also be seconded by an elected member of the Consilium de Civitate.

Qualifying nominees shall have their nomination posted in the Prothalamos and will be moved to vote as per the procedure in Section II, Article III.

Savior of TWCThe Savior of TWC award is bestowed to those members who, in time of crisis, work above and beyond the call of duty to ensure that the TWC forums do not perish from the internet.

Nominees shall have their nomination posted in the Prothalamos and then moved to vote as per the procedure in Section 2 Article 3. The efforts of our hard working members who have voluntarily sacrificed their time to ensure TWC remains up and running should be recognized! If any of our talented Artists wish to design the award, I'll be very grateful.

Oppose. More medal cruft. I just know that eventually this is going to get watered down and handed out to a dozen people, then someone else is going to do something remarkable, and then you'll have to make up yet another medal for them, which will devalue this one further . . .

This is the sort of thing I meant Divus to be, when I proposed it in 2005. The Curia blew that one, and I don't think it should have yet another chance. It has absolutely no restraint when handing out medals. For heaven's sake, someone posting in this thread already has eight medals. I'm sure he's done a lot and so on, but the number of medals we have that are awarded on largely arbitrary and subjective grounds is just ridiculous. The only medals I'll support are ones that have extremely clear criteria for being granted, if even those.

    Opposed.

Its not that I dont appreciate the sentiment, but lets be honest here. We all know this is for the events of the last few days. When Sim and I took on the responsiblities of the server, we knew what we were getting into. Sometimes that entails "going above and beyond". Its part of the job. If that means we lose a little sleep here and there, or that I have to drive to the server occasionally, or that we both have to do something else that we do not normally have to do, then that is just the way it is. We made our beds, sometimes we have to sleep in them.

I do not need a medal for doing my job.

What make of oil did you feed him? Did he require water or other coolants, or is he air-cooled?

There is no need to be overly redundant and repeatedly repeat what has been said.

Opposed based on Sim's and Ged's posts who, even seeing from their posts here, are quite the responsible admins TWC is honoured to have. Moreover, I do think it's somewhat hypocritical by the part of the Curia to create and give so many awards as already stated, but when it comes to actually make an important change to the site, we all suddenly turn into conservatives.

If you want to thank Sim, there are a couple of things you can do.

    1. Think of a way to reduce the number of medals and shinies on the userbar.
    2. Pass it.

It would be something Sim would appreciate more than another acclamation though. Organisation and tidying things up is one of his obsessions, as with all system administrators. Perhaps a centralised hall of fame thing where award winners are listed, whilst minimising the amount of clutter on the sidebar. A bit of imagination, a bit of sweat from some people prepared to keep things updated, and a willingness to give up shinies, and it might be workable.
