Empire total war was a disappointment and I'm not quiet ready to pay $100 AU for what i expect to be a buggy 1/2 arsed effort. Did they put any effort in it? Is it reasonably moddable (RTW or M2TW standards, not ETW)?

$87.29 USD/$100 AU is a bit too much, even for Napoleon:Total War. The game itself is a definite improvement over Empire, but I wouldn't pay that much for it.
How come it costs so much for you? It's because you live in Australia? It's just $29.99 at Amazon.
Napoleon has better graphics (especially for the effects of artillery) but even after I bought it, I play ETW more. So if you didn't like ETW I don't think you'll like NTW.
I bought my NTW at Gamestop the day it was released for $54 I think it was. I would have paid twice the price, either before purchasing it, and now after.
I have played all the campaigns now at least once to completion. I highly recommend NTW as an excellant source of value for your entertainment dollar. My wife will be away from our home this weekend, and I fired up the first few turns of a new British campaign in anticipation. Bought the extra units too.
People have different impressions of what a good value is but imo, as a TW fan since day 1 of Shogun, I highly recommend NTW as a good fun way to spend some gaming time.

no, not worth it.
you can download a free demo via the steam store but for that price no i paid $40 canadien thats what i think its worth.

Screw it if it's not easily moddable I'm not wasting money on it. Moddings one of the reasons i still play RTW and M2TW, and why I've given up on ETW.
In this thread, please find enclosed: The reason why I love the internet.
I've seen a good few of these 'Price is sooo high' threads, and in each one I've managed to find a price roughly half of that originally stated. Unfortunately I was beaten to the bat this time.
Not that you even planned to buy the game, you promptly found another reason to bash it.
Well, are you the modder or the mod user? If you use mods and have no experience of modding I think there are still a lot of variety in this forum, like Great War, Empire Realism, Order of War, EiC....etc.
I have got 200 hours out of this game so far and has been well worth the price for me so far.
These modders are just upset because the game was not made tallier made to there needs of enjoyment, but if modding is not what your worried about and your looking for a fun campaign and good mp experiance then buy this game.O and i got the game pre order for 50 bucks aussie with a trade in for a crapy old xbox game that i dont play anymore so i dont know where you got your pricing from, shop around mate.

£12.95 Imperial Edition from Zavvi
http://www.zavvi.com/games/platforms.../10076099.html
Go to EB Games, I bought the Emperors Edition, for $100AUD, now you can pick up the Imperial Edition there for $50AUD. They are having a sale throughout July. Or go to JB HI FI, I saw it there for $45AUD. The standard edition is even cheaper, originally being $60AUD when released, its like $40AUD
SO its defently not overpriced. Even when it was first released, you could pick up the standard edition for $60. When ETW was first released, the standard edition was $100, and the collectors edition was $140.
And as a modder, I find NTW much easier to mod. Just letting you know if you plan to mod it, and it has things like unit.variants, which is basically a modeller, but very simple to mod. And I find the game is much bigger, and hase more features. The campaign map is better, the graphics are better, but don't use any more of your system than ETW. The AI is better, more units, every saysm, well ETW had more units, well I say, no, it had like 20 units only, just the same units for every faction, but they just colour the jacket a different colour and call it a new unit. NTW doesn't have that problem, it has 350+ units, all very unique.
And NTW is much more stable. SO go ahead and buy, you won't regret it, and its cheap!
Formally known as 'Marshal Beale' - The Creator the Napoleon TW mods - 'Napoleon Order of War' and 'Revolution Order of War'
wow, I was gonna say "YEAH TOTALLY!" it truly is an awesome game, and I have both Napo and Empire (Empire was bad), but I got both games for $40 so....yeah at that price I think even a bad game is somewhat worth it :/
both empire and napoleon are not worth it
I hate Empire and Napoleon, I had more fun playing Imperial glory from 2005. As for Napoleon being playable, blah, you finish campaign and shelve the game which offers very little improvement over the Empire. Napoleon is pure, after Empire failed they release another game with EXACT engine, they can say whatever but it is the same principle only Napoleon has attrition and replenishment. For me Napoleon TW offer very little, if I could I would sell it but then there is this damn Steam
Also atm I'm having loads of fun playing Third Age 1.4 and am waiting for 2.0 more then I expect Shogun 2. I'm rly feeling bad for paying CA for Empire and Napoleon and wish I pirated them so then it would not be a waste of money. Also what good are mods in Empire and Napoleon when recruitment browser is poorly designed and even with vanila at later stage barely selectable unit cards.
ninja edit: extra rant =)
