Default RS II: recruiting gladiators as an irregular force (Ideas)

I recently was thinking after watching Spartacus Blood and sand if it was possible to make the recrutiment of gladiators from Capua possible?

I don't have much historical knowledge, Spartacus blood and sand is far from accurate. This being said even if it was even done and put them on the fields to fight for Rome might sound silly but i enjoyed using them on vanilla.

Though Vitellius's army was swollen by levies of slaves, plebs and gladiators, not as useful as a legion cohort but of use in desperation of recruitment.

It would be interesting to see a little more variety other then cohorts in the roman army, Gladiators was and still is the most interesting part about roman culture and games, I found that this wasn't implemented to well in RS1.6 and was regarded rather as part of the economical machine in the background whilst playing, i think it should be brought to life in RSII, purely for the purpose of bringing the essence of being the Roman faction back into the game.

Even if it was not possible to add a irregular unit to the recruitment, can we not see it implemented into veteran cohort ex-soldiers and free gladiators?

    What do people think?

They had Gladiator everywhere, in the big city's mostly the city where they need'd the most to influence the populus, to show how great and merciful the roman empire could be, not just 1 town....

if u played the vanilla version, u knew that not only Capua is a gladiator recrute town, should be recrutble almost everywhere.

I don't think it would be a good idea because there is already a set amount of units and the team won't replace any of the current ones for a gladiator. The other reason why I think it's not a good idea is because RS 2 is in economy/campaign balance and this would delay the release.

A gladiator in the field would be a auxiliary unit, i guess. A freed slave or gladiator could sign up to join the army, also a guess Having an actual unit of gladiators in the field, would probaly be fantasy.

We removed all gladiator units to use the slots for more important units. And, as mentioned above, a 'unit' of gladiators would be a real stretch. I know of no instance where they fought FOR Rome, only against in rebellion. They were, afterall, slaves and unwilling prisoners captured during Rome's wars of conquest. Their greatest value, also, was for entertainment purposes....fighting and dying. They had no military usefulness.

Otho used them against Vitellius at Cremona. Didn't do much good, but he did try. Still, not enough to create a unit of them.

It doesn't have to be completely historically accurate to be entertaining. If I want to learn about Spartacus, I'll go to the library. When I want to see heads rolling in the arena, I watch Blood and Sand. Simple as that.

Well said, too much arm-folding going on about historical accuracy in shows/movies that aren't supposed to be about historical accuracy.
