Issue with getting RTR Platinum to start

Hi guys,

I am on Windows 7 Professional with RTW version 1.5 installed.

I installed RTR Platinum 1.9 and have faced two different errors that both mean that when it gets to the screen where the map is during the loading process it ends automatically and goes to the desktop. I have had two separate error messages in my attempts to make it work and sometimes there is no error message, it just happens.

I have tried re-installing, using compatability mode and running as administrator. I've attached screens of the two error messages I get.

Sorry if this has come up before, I'd be really grateful for any help or any pointing in the direction of a relavent thread.

You need BI 1.6 to play all RTR mods other than 6 Gold. That's what's causing your errors. Just buy (or install) BI for a few dollars and play the game!

Barbarian Invasion isn't necessary. I can't find my disc so i just use the RTW engine and RTR Platinum works fine for me

Can be, but as far as I know you need BI installed to play the game. Most of the common errors are caused by not having BI installed, that's why I suggested trying this.

If you remove the BI only features from the game then you can play it with just RTW. You will get a CTD or something eventually if you don't get rid of every instance.

Ok I installed BI and unfortuantely this failed. I'm getting similar results when I try to run RTW, with the RTW disc in. Running BI with the BI disc has the same results.

Any ideas?

I'd recomend that you attempt to install rtr on a seperate computer (one with preferabily XP) with all the patches etc.

Then copy all those files onto you other computer (i.e. the one with windows 7) including the desktop shortcut.

With the copied shortcut change the "target" and the other one to your new file locations. Also, run the shortcut 'as administrator'. Also, on the compatiability tab you want to run on an XP 'service pact' aswell as running the program at 256 colours.

Ive got windows 7 64 bit and it took me about 3 days to get it working. I installed rtr exrm, not platimun but should still work alright.

When installing with Windows 7, it has a habit of splitting where the installation goes. if you accept the defaults. Program Files and Program Files(x86)
Manually create a new folder, call it Games or something in whichever is your preferred Programs folder.
Re-intstall RTW but when prompted to select a folder, point to the one you just made.
check its working
Install BI (at this point my install automatically found the correct new path)
check its working
Install BI Patch 1.6
check its working and installed correctly
Install RTR PE
If you have to select the path manually, naavigate to the RTW folder and install there

Hope that helps
