The only risk is that a thrid party comes into play and picks up a credit card number. Steam itself wouldn't dare overcharge you.

Way, way safer than using your credit card in a restaurant.
Then it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy how's yer soul?"

I've never had an issue with the online purchasing part of Steam. I'm pretty sure that they wouldn't have been able to get to the position they're in without having Grade A++ super encryption and quite strict purchasing policies.

Actually *using* steam on the other hand....
Well, the first time I installed Steam it deleted my registry ><. All that would run is IE6, Portal and World of Warcraft. Couldn't even open Add/Remove Programs to reinstall Windows components.

Go ahead, STEAM; Never delay, Never Overcharge, Sometimes even give me the game long before billing me
I buy with them almost 10 times already

Besides.....It's the only source to get DLC for this game, isn't it?

I am pretty sure Steam is very safe. I purchased NTW through it and not a problem. I doubt any platform as large as Steam would try to 'steal' anybody's credit card details.
Although there is always a possibility (In this case small) that a third party could get these details off Steam, which I highly they could.

Just make sure you have your account details firmly implanted in your brain. You'd never want to lose those. Lose those and you've lost all your games and possibly your ability to use that credit card on a different account.

As was stated above me, you need to make sure you have a written copy of your account details and you save all e-mails pertaining to the purchase of products. If you lose your account, then you'll have lost all of your games. It's happened to me more than once where I would forget my password and have to spend quite a significant time trying to recover my details.

For credit card information, Steam is quite safe and you could deselect the option to save your credit card information for ease of future purchases.

I'll be honest, i pay through paypal when buying on steam. but i don't think i'd have an issue paying them direct.
as TommyAtkins has said, its way safer then using your card in a restaurant or the like.

I have a general dislike of handing over my personal information to anyone, and would much prefer strolling into a store and buying my stuff with good ole fashioned cash. Nice and Anoymous..no plonkers tracking my buying habits.

No, Steam takes your details and buys stuff for themselves like hottubs, racing cars and expensive hookers. [/sarcasm]

There are two things I'm assured of in life, that I'm at some point going to die and that Steam is safe.

(I have over 100 games on Steam, never had any problem, except once with installing and then I asked a question and got an answer within 1 hour, problem fixed.)

Atleast add a reason. So easy to start a flame war like that.

Living isn't entirely safe either, you might die.
