Default SPQR 5.0 Wishlist (premature as it is)

Let's start a wishlist to give Lt even more gray hairs then we already have! My suggestion is that some named legions were renamed throught history. One that I read in unit description was renamed "Flavius Firma" (Flavius, Steadfast) because some emperor disbanded it for disloyalty then made another one to replace it. If possiable (let's say orginal legion was Parthica) We make republican first cohort named "LEGIO (w/e) PARTHICA". Then when you upgrade and can make Imperial cohorts from that city it changes name to "LEGIO (w/e) FLAVIUS FIRMA". Just a little idea that could be neat. Certainly isnt essential to game though. Please post input and new suggestions people.

I would like to see huge 3 gold chevron carthigian stacks pouring in from n.Italy for a start. Can armies be programmed to travel around the campaign map, or is it just random!? Well, if its programmable thats whati would like to have, gauls and carthage in the north of italy!

oh yeah, these carth armies should be mostly gaul mercs and iberian infantry(limited elephants) but all gold. I think the player should have to REALLY defend italy, with these new carthage armies in N. Italy taking roman cities early on!
1 more thing is it possible to make an unbreakable alliance between carthage and gaul???
Basically romans pushed 2 the brink!

    regards

That'd be a good idea except it'd make Julli almost unplayable. I don't think even Lt. could defend against the Gallic armies, plus Carthage with tripled Chevron'd elephants all on one front. Julli is supposed to be the "noob" Roman faction, not the "z0mg j00 are teh uber 1337ness pr0@!@!" faction. (Translation: Oh my god, you're the super elite pro faction). Personally I would like to see Senate playable, (obviously tone down the Praetorian gold chevroned army just a bit...). If it's at all possiable have completly new gameplay, but this idea needs ALOT of brain storming if even considered at all. This would also doubtlessly be a heck of alot of work, so perhaps this is only an idea for a much later patch when Lt. has some huge inspiration and got his arse fired out of a cannon.

i think an interesting improvment would be to increase carthages armies in spain, increase the abilitys and stats of early carthage. Or just for their mercs. Carthage mercs should be cheaper and more numerous as well, and their normal units made more expensive upkeep.

And Early gaul should be weaken and towards the later stages is when gaul becomes powerful.

The ultimate aim of this is to get carthage be more agressive in spain, and get them to invade gaul/france. But eventually gaul will get their elite troops and beat them back.

    The julii will also benefit

Great Idea! I had forgotten about it, but I am always frustrated how Carthage makes little to no progress in Spain. Considering Carthage conquered most of if not all of Spain under Hamilcar, and later Hannibal Barca. Usually spain is just a cash cow for the gauls who are free to take it due to people playing by house rules and not expanding too much, thus not putting much pressure on Gaul.

That'd be nice as an option to do, but you might end up just overpowering people. Mass income will allow you to concentrate on one front with the income of 3 factions. Also which Roman family do you use? Most likely the senante faction's (Maxentius). So now you have 4-5 family members income of 3 factions and possibly praetorians to invade greece, gaul, or carthage. What if you make it house rules to fight three fronts you say? You now have the resources and armies and land of three factions but one family to go around supporting all those fronts. Really if you do unify Rome though you become an Gaul/Egypt/Dacia/Germans in terms of provinces, with much more income and much better troops. Let alone the Romans have many traits other factions don't have which makes their generals pretty good. Also what happens if you wish to play as Carthage or Greece or Gaul? The AI "Rome" Faction now concentrates all the resources at the disposal of three houses to fight you, certainly a challenge but unless you take advantage of AI you'll probably not do too well. Also what about the Senate missions? The whole senate giving missions, and holding power over you and your allies is what makes Romans special, otherwise they're just another faction. All the sudden there isn't that big mystique of capturing Roma, since you already have it.

I could go on for awhile about ^, but i'll just stop Sorry for being Mr. Pessimist but I'm sorta taking Lt's job of shooting down ideas, and ruining dreams until he decides to grace this topic with his presence

I think it would be cool for the legions themselves to have attributes that exist without their general. It would also be cool for more senate interactions.

It is basicly impossible for carthage to expand in spain, After attempting this I ran into several problems.

    1. 80% unrest penalty, no forseeable casue
    2. 50% culture penalty
    3. 8-star 3 silver shevron uber army at the only passage into northern spain.

The 3rd scared the hell out of me. The others just make it impossible to keep the settlements happy. I have a general and 19 town watch in both towns I conqured, and have built everything to my culture, but to no avail... Its impossible to take all of spain. Seriously, even the remaining 500 civilians in one of my towns have revolts against the 2-3k (large sizes) troops I have stationed there.

It is diffucult, but is definitely worth controlling Spain for MAJOR income!

You can take spain, start destroying old buildings and build new buildings of YOUR faction. I have been able to hold provinces, though be it there was no room for error on the part of rebellion and happiness. Spain is suppose to be a pain to take and basically a faction in itself, I just didnt want it to expand and that is why I didnt make it a faction. But it has some tough armies and VERY rebellious. I suggest taking one city at a time and building up that city FIRST, then conquer another. You will NEVER be able to hold them without alot of buildings for Law and Happiness.

Also Revan, I suggest you use paragraphs as its a pain to read one solid paragraph.

If Spain is so hard to take, why does Gaul have no problems what-so-ever with it? Also, while humans shouldn't have too much trouble with conquering Spain once you get elite units, much later in the game when they're buildable in Spain. (Considering it's a PAIN to reinforce from Carthage, one time i built up a huge army that just got eaten up by the over powered gaul navy). I think it is more Important an AI Carthage can expand in Spain. Since mainland doesn't send any men (In my experiance) to Spain they need better troops or some equalizer, maybe more territory in Spain. I was rather disappointing, when launching "The Great Spanish Invasion of 200 BC" Carthage hadn't done anything in Spain, just held their orginal holdings.

I sat in Osca for ages while I was trying to subdue northern Gaul and watched province after province rebel against their gallic masters. At any one time approximately 2/3 of their provinces were rebelling. Send spies in and watch the fun the Gauls have there. Also, I put a spy or 2 in Carthage and watched dozens of armies get shipped to Sicily, but the Scipii (with a little help from moi, the volcano and the Greeks in Syracuse) managed to hold them.

Damn, I want to go back to my campaign after but I have to finish playing another game I just got first. Currently playing 'Supreme Ruler 2010' and trying to invade Asia makes invading Briton look like a picnic.
