I'm not actually good at writing curia proposals, so pardon my poor style of writing.
Rationale:
Nowadays, more and more people find themselves accustomed to financial and economic developments,
Economic developments about
- the recession of the last years
- the sovereign debts crisis
- the economics of big companies
- statistics about employment/salaries/etc
- news about stock exchange
- monetary developments
- the banking sector
- labour economics
- welfare
or Economic theories and systems, their applications, experiments and innovations.
We see threads in the Pit which have to do with the economy, while politics themselves are not so involved. It is true that economic discussion cannot exist without its political parametres, but I find wrong to see threads about economics statistics be derailed very soon into pure politics.
Moreover, with the current structure, there is no particular forum that encourages economics' discussion, so that we can have a clear picture about its viability. It is my opinion, though, that such a forum would very likely bring people into its threads, thus generating more and more activity. Also, members who are interested in economy and finance will have their own place of discussing them, possibly creating frequent posters in that forum.
It would be justified to say that that forum would not be as lively as, say, the VV, the Pit or the Academy. In the beginning, this will almost certainly be true, but as I said, hopefully it will increase steadily over time.
However, knowing that this won't pass if I bring it without having evidence that there is real need for this forum, I shall propose a trial period of 2 months. If it is a sucess, the Curia will decide on keeping it. If not, it will reject it.
Decision
I really want to hear opinions, proposals for alteration or any kind of concerns over this. Thanks in advance.
