    Hey Greek Fans !

i'm new to the Greek mod and i really love it !
the units are historical the map is great and this is how a Mod should look like (IMO)
but i was starting a Rome campaign (first time)
and in the south there a 2 stacks full off units.
if i fight them i lose but the elephants of Pyrrhus can take half of my settlements in like 5 turns
do you guys have the same problem ?
and how can i defeat those large armies ?!

(it's also the same with Macedon, i was invading Sparta and then a giant Gallic army pops up in the north)

    i really need some advice
    Thanks,
    sorry for my english

Well what i do is play a war of attrition with Purhus (or whatever his name is), I simply attack him on the first or second turn with the roman army and i attack his elephants, annihilate the elephants and then retreat. And as for the second army you should not worry about them because they are mostly militia and should be mostly easy.
Also you can get an alliance with the Gauls Independent on the first turn.

You might want to check out Kara Kolyo's guide: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=152326

When I play Macedon I usually gather my forces and position them in the pass to the north of Pella. The Gauls will usually attack with two stacks, which you should be able to beat if you make good use of the terrain.

Does anyone know if these stacks are related to the Gallic invasion of the entirity of greece and how it made it's way to turkey and settled both there and Tylis? (the reason for Thracian Barbarians?)

Yes, the three stacks that spawn at the start of the Macedonia campaign represent the Gallic invasion. There's also a Galatian campaign where you can play as the Gallic horde.

    Defeating Macedon is easy.

Just gather all the troops and generals from your mainland cities and fight the first stack. You'll probably have time to conquer Thebes/Corinth, before the 2nd stack arrives from Pella.

After that, send your units to retrainment and keep making new ones and remember to always leave 1 unit on the cities, so they just dont walk up and take them without resistance.

Im a M/M player and i usually do this without any problems at all. It takes very few turns to finish Macedon quickly

FrozenSol: Do you mean that your battles start right away with no deployment phase? That should happen in two types of battle - ambushes and when the enemy sallies out from a city you are besieging. I don't know what would cause it to happen at other times. Could it be the "arcade style battles" option?

Lucarius: Grimbold is right. When I play the GCS I always gather my forces, hire the available mercenaries, and lay siege to Corinth in the first turn. A nearly full Macedonian stack should attack on the AI turn, which you should be able to beat if you make good use of your Spartans. You can certainly capture Thebes and maybe even Larissa before the second stack arrives.

Dude - XGM is far above the level of Vanilla

Medium/Medium is beyond the hardest level of vanilla in terms of complexity

Rome/Macedon/Greeks are some of the most difficult campaigns to play initially

If you want an easy start - Germany and Iberia are the factions to play.

Fix the problem, not the blame!

All three of these have a mass horde of enemies at the start ready to attack.

    For the inexperienced - beating

    1. Pyhruus as Rome
    2. The Gallic Horde as Macedon
    3. Macedon as Greek City States

    is kinda hard.

Iberia and Germany have no hordes of enemies assaulting them at the start
and have a fairly easy few turns of building/conquest of neutrals, before they need to fight a major power.

Fix the problem, not the blame!

    Iberia,Germania were the easiest campaign

Carthage is easier too.If everything go wrong just retreat to North Africa
Ptolemaic is a little more difficult because SE is a monster here

Position yourself on a hill on the campaign map and lure him into attacking your army. Kill elephants with javelins and pwn it up.
