Default Launcher, Saves, and the Boii

I didn't quite know where to post this so I started a new thread.

Yesterday 6/30/10, I had been following the "Show Your Empire Thread" as I do daily. I believe TONE had said that after an SVN update a "Delete map.rpw" needed to be done.

This in mind the Boii campaign I had been reporting on and playing on I had started by using the following RomeTW.exe file found here:

After TONE's update from yesterday...I did as I said and launched the Boii Campaign through the below, inorder to make the deletion he had mentioned:

A few things occurred which I must point out and ask questions on:

    1) I noticed my saved Boii campaign from the original method of lauching RSII was not in the saved games folder...my assumption is that it is some where else. Please advise.

    2) Being that I did not have the above mentioned saved campaign I went on to using the launcher program/interface (I probably should have done this from day one) to start a NEW campaign...I found the Boii are MUCH different when compared to the RomeTW.exe:
    a) There are 3 starting regions in the new campaing (with proper launching interface)...I now have the region Bononia (next to Rome)...this gives me 3 regions as opposed to the 2 I had to start, with the campaign i've been playing. I like this, but WHY the difference?

    b) I have 5001 in funds to start as apposed to my 20001 I start with in RomeTW.exe...Additionally my economy is MUCH MUCH weaker to start. Everyone is miles ahead, and as I expressed in my previous threads...the Boii were weak financially...NOW they really are. Here's a screenshot, its early...but I have no shot in this campaign...and within a few turns Rome has taken so much land and grown so fast (below shows after 1st turn).
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

BUT perhaps the wierdest or most disturbing part about this entire campaign...I CAN'T SAVE!!!!!!!!! AND...I wasn't able to take a print screen, I had to actually take a picture with my camera phone and upload the JPEG...to show I could not save. WHATS THIS ABOUT???
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

SO what would you have me do? Go back to the original way I've be launching RSII and play my established campaign? If I can't save with the launcher way, it makes no sense to play. I also wonder if the changes made on your end by TONE, DVK, etc...are being implemented or not.

You were using the 0 turn campaign, since you did not use the launcher.
And now you use the true Boii campaign, which has differences from the 0 turn one.
Your saves are in play_boii/saves, but they are NOT save compatible with your previous campaign.

If you can't save, it is probably because you did not restart the game when switching campaign.

OK, you need to understand this.....the game needs to be played using the launcher.

That way it gets played properly. The campaign you had before wasn't the proper "Play_Boii" campaign, it was the default campaign which isn't really intended to be played. (In fact, DVK, I suggest that we make it impossible for people to play any campaigns using this to avoid just such a confusion - people can always play the faction specific campaigns on "easy").

The campaigns are intended to be challenging, and capable of keeping even the seasoned campaigner active for some time. That's why the economy is challenging. The original intention was for the Boii to have Bononia (as it's historical), but we found to begin with that it caused too much confusion for the AI. For the player it presents an interesting dilemna - do you try and defend Bononia or do you allow the Romans to capture it and make your defence elsewhere? The challenge is to create a flourishing economy, and this is really essential if you want to survive.

With regard to screenshots, what are you using to create them and where are you looking for the screenshots? As you'll see from all the screenshots here, there aren't many people that are having problems with this, and it's certainly not an issue with the launcher.

With regard to saves you may want to go to RSII Beta/Play_Boii/ and create a saves folder if it doesn't exist or make it not "read only" if it does.

Please continue with this Boii campaign, not what you were using before.

Paedric, would it be possible to do two things:

    1. Have the Launcher show text for the Main Campaign that just says 'Custom\Historical Battles Only'.
    2. Change the Menu in the Main Campaign so that the 'Imperial Campaign' is no longer an option?

This would go a long way towards solving this problem better than I can.

Ok thanks for straightening this out for me...I'll do as advised, and use the launcher.

I am using the print screen button on my cpu, it has been working fine...I only had this problem when I couldn't save.

As for the Boii...I certainly like the different starting position, it does make it more of challenge...as I must decide to defend or retreat.

The other thing to realise is that as a player you are generally around 3 times more efficient with your finances than the AI, so don't be intimidated by seeing your puny finances compared with the AI, although it does look scary.

Yeah I'm seeing that...and as I will show in my 1st post of the re-launch of the Boii campaign, I am doing quite well. Rome for some reason has fallen on hard times economically, maybe Obama is running the empire...lol.

In the end, as DVK had said, my mistakenly/incorrect way of launching the Boii campaign had shown that some changes needed to be made so that no one would make the same mistake I did.

This game is awesome...keep doing what u all are doing.
