What difficulties is the mod balanced for?

Hello all,
i was a very active RTW vanilla and BI player a few years ago, and now encountered your mod, which sounds wonderfull. What i wanted to ask about while downloading are the difficulty settings. Usually i played Vanilla and BI on VH/VH or later H/VH (to avoid the AI cheating to much on the strategy map). However i heard, that most mods are now balanced around M/M and high difficulty settings could break the experience. And of course playing for West Rome (I wanted to give Valentinian in 365 a try) sounds difficult and interesting in itself. So what i wanted to ask is for what difficulty levels the mod is balanced? And what level should i choose to get a really challenging, still fair game?

The is balanced for medium battlefield difficulty. As for the campaign, I usually play on hard.
