    is not hard at all. unfortunately italian is only spoken in italy, part of slovenia and croatia, part of switzerland etc...

    if u go to Toronto Ontario.. the half inhabitants are italians or italians of second/third generation.. In Buenos Aires the same thing.. Unfortunately for us, our language is less useful of english itself or spanish

    Some questions for you sud commander

    Italian to my small knowledge seems to have more words that end in 'I' than with Calabrese or with what I know of Calabrese.

    Ok I will write some of the words I can think of at the moment. Some of the words my family says are probably not true Calabrese, because they are English words that sound Italian or Calabrese. I don't know which ones, but I guess there are more than a few. Anyway I will just put the ones I think are closest to the real words. So Please Excuse the very VERY POOR SPELLING Americano

    Ok so I warned ya here goes nothing!

    chicaeda = girl
    chicaedu = guy
    manga = eat
    zucca = sauce
    forno = oven
    porcheda = female pig
    porchedu = male pig
    casaloda = cooking pot or kettle
    canalettas = eaves droppings or gutters
    capadostu = hardhead
    mortamazzazza = to kill dead
    mazzamushca = what we called the fly swatter
    musha = slow
    cula musha = slow ass
    ascpeta = wait
    mada mada = look... look... or look at you!
    bonyadole = clothes shoot? or laundry basket?
    bonne zuc = sauce with bread
    rashola = steak roll
    dove = where
    gittianu (or like jit-tee-ahn) = running around or screwing off
    fasha or fashan = like flatter
    stunatha (like stew-not-tha) = in a daze or stupid
    qui cauada = how hot?
    La straga = witch
    cano = dog
    chicallas = cicadas or locusts
    cattiola = hoopty (old junky car)
    chicanadas = chickens or people to keep the chickens
    cunidas (like coo-need-yas) = rabits
    cicadeanga (like chick-adee-yahn-ga (like to make chicken breast)
    il gatto = the cat
    tripivets = your gut or belly
    shacalatuc (like shock-alla-took) wash the lettuce
    allahinda = elephant (or if you don't want to call someone a fatty )
    Oh and a funny one:
    pasta patat = past & potatos
    past pasida = (like paseeda) pasta and peas

    La machine = We call that to people who stuff their faces with food

    Ok I'm sure I'm forgetting a bunch and I also could add some crude words, but david did a pretty good enough job with those although here's a couple of things you say when you're pissed off or telling someone to piss off I just don't know what parts of these words mean what
    Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    Fazzicazzathu (like fahts-zee-cahts-a-thu) mind you're own ____ business!

    Cazzikitthovreak (like Caht-zee-kit-tho-vreak) or you can say (Cazzi-kit-tho-vuk) basically piss of I think.

    Calabrese is more difficult to hear and to lear because some words be derived from greek, muslim and normans. I Calabria we have different dialect for different part og the region. We have "Riggitano" (reggio calabria), "Catanzarisi" (catanzaro), "Crotonisi" (crotone), "Cosentino" (cosenza). and after we have different dialect form ever country. I speak "Riggitano" your family speak crotonisi and is difficult for me undestand some words.

    Seems there's a lot of differences between what I have heard and what you wrote!

    Oh and what does it mean to say ungazz (un-gahts) and brush the bottom of your chin with the back of your hand out to someone else? I think it means 'tis off' or 'don't bother!' I'm I close? hehe

    Are you serious or are you joking? I can tell you that you are very wrong my friend, there are a lot of Italians here but no way in those numbers you are implying.

    As I understand it, most people know both one dialect and standard Italian. Italian is the 'standardised' language, but it was actually randomly chosen as the official language of literature and scholarship sometime in the middle ages by writers such as Dante. It spread quickly with the economic growth of Italy, but many retain their dialects.

    In l'altro notizie ...

    Ciao a tutti! Sto provando vedere se posso miglioro il mio Italiano, e stavo sperando che qualcuno forse può parla a mi in Italiano su MSN, se lo hai. Il mio e-mail è darkrainofterror@hotmail.com.

    It would help if you could speak English ... and if the Italian that I just posted was incorrect, please correct it.
