Default Im really impressed by this mod but I have just 4 questions!

1 What inspired you to create this work of art?
2 Have you ever had the feeling to give up?
3 What factions have you reskined from the previous release?
4 Finally what opinion do you have of your mod?

By the way I cant wait for the release, its gonna be epic! Fantastic job!

    1) We never set out to do it....if we had we probably wouldn't have started! In reality it initially started off as a small improvement on 1.5 but it became a monster and took over. In terms of details, both DVK and I are quite perfectionist in our tendencies, and have been helped massively by some very talented individuals.

    2) Many, many times

    3) All of them...in fact there's only one unit that remains from 1.6 and that's the numidian cavalry, but I'm wanting to redo that before release.

    4) It's pretty good...there are some good things and some less good things. I think it should provide quite a challenge and visually it's pretty nice. There are some annoying glitches that we haven't found the answers for, namely:
    i) We've probably maxed out the ability of RTW to show unit / building information cards and quite often they show up white which is frustrating - even packing them hasn't fixed this
ii) The "surf" around some bits of the Aegean coast appears and disappears sometimes - I think it's probably due to maxing out the ability of RTW to render the detailed coastal outline, but again haven't been able to find a fix for it other than remove a load of islands, which I'd be reluctant to do.
iii) Using the "bloom" effect you get a black screen with some green writing on it while the game loads up - it's worth waiting for this to go as the effect works really nicely
iv) Some of the older units don't look so good - wish there was time to improve those
    v) A load of other stuff

About the graphic this mod is the top, no doubt! The only units that don't convince me, graphically speaking, are some armenian ones. Anyway, is nothing in front of a such great work

I would gladly wait another half-year if Tone and all the other skinners decided to re-update all the units they aren't happy with

The end effect would be way worth it (it would also give the beta testers more time to finish their work and more)

The thing is, if you wait too long, most of the stuff gets outdated at some point. That is why it's better to release patches after the mod has been released to improve some of the older units and such.

    1. History, perfection, the Romans, and people willing to do a great work themselves and contribute.
    2. Yes and no. Sometimes I'd like to just quit, but I keep my promises when I make them.
    3. Everything, as Tone says. There is no 'Vanilla' in any RS2 unit. They are all hot sauce and bitterness....joking.
    4. Since you asked that question, even at the expense of sounding egotisical or 'bragging', I will answer that honestly.

RS2 has it's faults. Our trait system is not yet what I would've liked it to be (and it will get revamped and redone after release at some point).
Frankly, it 'works' where it works, but there is SO much more that can be done with traits. Also, for lack of time, ancilliaries aren't what they should be either.
Too many bozo meaningless things in there....again, it will get revamped after release.

Beyond that, RS2 is an RTW\BI\ALEX capable mod....so it lives up to the capabilities of RTW, and retains many of the inherent faults it had. If you love playing RTW\BI, then RS2 will be great. If you find yourself disappointed with what RTW can't do...then RS2 may well disappoint. I happen to love RTW. It's a simple platform, easy to manipulate, and offers a ton of the fun that a game in it's category can provide.

All of this said, RS2 was never intended to go as far as it did, and we never dreamed that we COULD take it to the extremes that we have. Screenshots and previews can give you 'an' impression of what it's like, but I am still awed every time I bring it up, or go into a battlefield, with how absolutely UNLIKE RTW anything you see looks. In a few words, it is epic in scope, and spectacular in what it offers your eyesight. The graphically talented guys who have worked on this, I think, all took themselves to a very high level of quality and 'intent'.....creating things that don't just look 'nice', but look waaayyyy better than nice. The attention to detail is just stunning!

So graphically speaking, and aside from the inherent things RTW can't do being an older game, all of the newer TW games have nothing visually on RS2.
In other respects...game play, unit stats, faction performance, playability, challenge, etc, etc....we've done our best. And it will be out very soon.

As a Beta tester this thing is as close to perfection as possible. To all those waiting...EVERYDAY it is updated with improvements...so understand IT IS being worked on!!!!

The RSII team is very responsive to all the Beta Testers, and are on top of everything as they make changes almost immediatly to any problems, etc.

Thats all I can say and want to say in terms of details...others wise I risk being crucified by the Romans

    Hi
As a researcher, i found digging up information for the RS2 team very challenging.
With the help of kervonos( member of RS) and also library's I would spend time, also buying books, looking up countless sites on every thought on the Greeks, and Spartan factions.
We just wouldn't settle on one model or skinned unit.
We discussed and discussed every detail on a unit. In a group forum.
And Tone and others gracefully would change the model and the skinned unit over and over again. Sometimes Tone said ok that's it! Because of the time it would take on one unit.

I remember about a few years ago asking Tone to improve the Spartans, and the hoplites which others have wanted also.
And he created these on R1.6. The new hoplites.
Still we wanted the true units and not the old vanilla.
So RS2 was born, and the ideas came and came from all of us.
From just adding a few things to rebuilding a whole new faction , or building tree.It became a new game altogether!
Kervonos ( hope i spelled his name right) Added much detail to our units from tomb locations, Greek maps and historical documents. Which you can find our work on the Spartan thread preview.
I'm not going to go into every detail, but we gained great talented group, from skinners, modelers, artists for flags, music, traits and map makers, beta testers, ect ect.
And i can tell you, every time i test something form map locations to battlefields there is always something i missed on detail of beauty from the clouds, forests, the change of weather, and the changes of the skies as the game proceeds. which you would think, "is this MTW2"?
This mod is more than a game, a work of art, which you fans will see the time they put into it.
RTW isn't perfect, but you will observe. Is this from RTW vanilla?

Just to give you an idea of how things are for the first time you begin a campaign in RSII:

    1) you're waiting for your game to load, your heart is beating, full of adrenaline...
    2) campaign finally loads........ WOOOOOW.... you want to start expanding, but you just can't take your eyes of the map
    3) you wanna start building, but you notice soooo many different, new buildings you have no idea what they're for... so you start reading EVERY building description in order to better understand how things work.... you'll realise the only way to understand is to play, play, play...
    4) now you are finally ready to start making money, invading territories, fighting armies, when you look at the time... ah , an hour has passed and I STILL haven't started

    Anyway... this was my experience
