    Default Unit strengths

Well, basically this is just another threat about stronger pikes and weaker legionaries.
I want to make a short fact list for myself and the community.
Phalanx - Unbeatable from the front, weaker on the flanks. High tier phalangites are hard to beat in melee though.
Legionary cohort - A medium unit. It strength lies in its number compared to its training. They are disciplined in a way only elite units are in other factions, but although weaker than most elite, Rome has then en masse. Their Regular units (Legionaries) are as strong as lower Elite units of other factions and are at least as numerous as the Regulars of other factions.
And they aren't that weak as other people complain, just put half your legionaries in a line in guard mode and the other half as reserve behind and flank the enemy. You still win every battle(except against pikes, theyare really dangerous).

How about making an army of 9 horse archers, 8 cataphracts, and 1 elephant and be done with this infantry silliness...
For sieges, just recruit crap loads of cheap mercs...

    lol

Anyways, the phalangites need rebalancing in terms of shield defense value since it's overpowered. (more discussion over at http://forums.totalwar.org/vb/forumd...opa-Barbarorum)

Historically, they were much weaker to arrows than is portrayed in EB. In EB, you can have 10 units of archers firing at a single phalangite unit from the front, and the phalangite would maybe loose 2-3 guys. There's been talking of lowering the shield value (some say this value is doubled when in sarissa mode?) to maybe 3ish or so.

An army made out of 9 horse archers, 8 cataphracts, and 1 elephant is so freaking expensive, one can actually field 3 decent infantry armies with the same cash.

And seriously its a shield value. Just shoot em from the sides that it does not count. It's not like you can't work around it. Plus you can always modify the stats yourself if they annoy you that much.

Perhaps it is mostly a game balanced decision? In vanilla rome archers were dominating everything so badly, you could actually field armies made of only archers and just win everything. Soo booring.
Any community that gets its laughs by pretending to be idiots will eventually be flooded by actual idiots who mistakenly believe that they are in good company.
