Default Multiple Rundll32 Instances Running on W7

    Hello all.

Installed RTW on my W7 box.
    - Put it in C:\
    - Disabled UAC (did that after installing the first game on my PC)
    - Set as Admin compatible w/ WinXP SP 2

Worked fine yesterday and this morning hit the icon and it just sat there w/ the blue circle going round and round. Went to Task Manager and found 100+ instances of Rundll32 running and taking up resources.

Anyone have this issue? Any solution?

Restart your computer and see if it works. Sometimes Windows startup does not work, even with win7. I've already had it do it to me.

How many programs do you have running in the background? http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windo...is-it-running/ may explain part of it.

Thanks for your help but I don't think that's it. I run lean and mean - been doing this for years now - and, as I stated, this issue just began happening.

    Very strange.

Do you have alist of all the programs tied to rundll32?
I just put in my BI disc and fired Solvo Populus and no problems I also checked while typing this I have zero rundll32s in Task manager.
Go into msconfig, and disable everying thar's not Windows, graphics, sound, antivirus/firewall, and then try it.
Run a good antivirus program along with a good antispyware program along with a good malware program.

I am running Win 7 64 bit with UAC disabled with Rome installed in C:\Program Files (x86)\Activision and if I'm going to have problems, it's here.
I also have .Net framework 4, and June, 2010 Diectx 9 update installed, Nvidia 257 graphics drivers.

I am starting to think you got a virus.

OK - I have narrowed it down to a disc initailization issue. And, I know that the disc and DVD player are fine as the disc is read - menu comes up - it just doesn't initialize. This is happening to another game I play (CFS3) and we have a report of .Net framework 4.0 update causing the issue. I am going to check my update history and perhaps rollback.

Or find a "somethin/somethin" that will take care of the issue

It works with .Net 4 for me.

See if http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en will copy over it. I know it still works with Rome.

    Update.

Deleted .Net 4.0 – RTW worked fine.

Then d/l’d the full .Net 4.0 package (3.5 is not compatible w/ W7 64bit) from the M$ site and installed – RTW worked fine.

So…must have been a corrupted install from the Windows auto update procedure.

    Thanks for your help here.
