I know about the Hammer and Anvil tactic and the Pincer tactic but what are the others and how effective are they?

Well, there's the head&horns tactic, which is basically the same as the pincer but with your main force advancing straight towards the enemy. This also is very simmilar to hammer and anvil actually, but head&horns doesn't require the wings to be heavy cavalry per se, they could be missile cav, light infantry, schock troops or whatever flanking the enemy. I believe the main difference between the other two is that the wings are supposed to reach the enemy before the main force does. This works especially well in M2 because the enemy will always march towards your main force, thus allowing you to pepper them with arrows or harrass them with whatever troops are in your wings before they reach your main force.

Another effective tactic for M2 is the one I have described here: (post #3 and #5)

And then ofcourse, you have the infamous "noob box" or tercio/pike square which is a more a defensive formation than a real tactic.

There are ofcourse dozens of tactics you could use, read some of the other threads in this subforum for a healthy dose of tactics.

You want to try leaving a gap in your main line, and charging your cavalry through when the enemies infantry become engaged in the gap. That way you will be able to crash into the flank of the enemy infantry in their centre of their own line, and get behind them effectively, in a place they do not expect.
