    Default House Rules for MTW2

    Hello everybody

I have just reloaded vanilla MTW2 & Kingdoms and its been like 2 years since I played last.

I want to get back into it and wondering what house rules people use when playing single player campaigns.

E.g When playing as England - I don't use archers stakes (Yeoman) at Gates when defending castle sieges as it beats the AI siege army every time.

I would Like to hear what everybody else does?

anyone for tennis? George Bernard Shaw

It's single player, you can do whatever the heck you want, no one cares

It's single player, a single player cares.

And I generally avoid exploiting the AI too. So maybe at least two players care

Yes, I know its single player but i was looking more for rules that people use not to exploit AI flaws or to improve their single player experience. If any - I might just be in the minority

I don`t think anyone follows such house rules, but your example is a good one if they were to exist
Well, if i think about everything that doesn`t seem real in Vanilla and that needs to be fixed so that the player doesn`t take advantage of the AI ...i think of Stainless Steel where the AI get all sort of bonuses so that it evens out the game between the AI and Human player ...
I know a mod is not what you were thinking about but it brings reality and balance witch was sort of what you wanted, isn`t it ?

"Don't use the add_money cheat unless you're trying to unkill the AI"
"Don't use the character_reset cheat unless your general is a square away from a city but out of MP"
"Don't use the remove_trait cheat unless you get something retarded, like shady dealer, you can't get rid of, if you actually shouldn't be able to get shady dealer etc"
Jon had taken Donal and Benjen’s advice to heart: Sam may be fat and pathetic, but he is still a member of the watch, and one of the few black brothers who isn't a rapist or thief. (out of context, this sounds ridiculously racist)

Don`t use any cheats in any circumstance at all! If you do, then the game will be impossible to loose! - yup, that easy, no matter what you do, you will not loose! Remember, it`s vanilla you're playing here

So you are offended when some other guy exploits the AI in his campaign?

    No, I play SS

Really, I think the only time I've cheated recently is with either diplomats, since I've never gotten used to not being able to use them for more than one mission per turn, or merchants, because I need to teleport them away from the AI's 8 finance homing rockets. toggle_fow doesn't count though.

As far as house rules, one I personnally like to use is when possible, only recruit units which are specific to your nationality. For example, playing as scotland, I only recruit noble swordsman , but not feudal knights. Don't know if it really makes much of a difference, but I feel it may add realism. (at least in my mind) Of course low level troops, especially in the beginning, don't count. I think it may be close to impossible to not hire some town militia or spear militia types to begin with. Those guys actually do a pretty good job and it makes some sense for a realistic town defence strategy.

You read my mind. I have he exact same rule. While I'm playing as England right now, I use English Knights instead of Feudal and Mailed ones. I don't use Dismounted Feudal Knights, but I use Dismounted English Knights, and so on and on...
"In stone halls they burn their great fires,
in stone halls they forge their sharp spears.
Whilst I walk alone in the mountains,
with no true companion but tears.
They hunt me with dogs in the daylight,
they hunt me with torches by night."

Rules, RULES? There are NO rules in CHINATOWN!!!!

Well, if you lose against the Timmies or Mongols after a battle where you followed some certain rules, I have no doubt you'll never follow these rules again. EVER!

Ruthlessly exploit the AI. They get an awful lot of perks that you don't, so it's a little fair to return the favor.

you can go with just spearmen. though its probably still too easy unless you auto everything. just peasants would be pretty interesting.

Russia, never fight the Byzantines, make heavy usage of marriage alliances with them, and make constant war against the turks. Also, I always ally with Germany divide Poland's corpse between us.

I like to run my Empire logically - I can't, for instance, imagine what interest Venice would have conquering the Holy Roman Empire. Far better to make them a vassal state. Somehow I can't envisage the Turks even wanting to invade Italy, or France - so I don't.
