Default A Few Question for a Newbie

    Hi Everyone,

I'm new to this mod, just downloaded a few days ago, and I have some questions for you guys:

    1. How can I stop having some of my cities churn out negative sums of money? For example Rome is losing some $2000 every turn and its really annoying, how do I reverse that?

    2. When installing the patch for version 1.6a, there was a 1 turn recruitment option opposed to the default 0 turn recruitment, could someone explain the difference to me.

    3. Why is there in Britons? I'm surprised that they are merged with the Gauls, when I've always seen them as two separate nations, the Celts (eg. Boadicea) and Gauls (Vercingetorix). So why the mix?

    4. As for Roma Surrectum 2, it looks like its almost finished, is there an approximation of when it will be finished? Because I already see beta testers for the new mod out there.

    5. Are there any *Must Need* to have a better experience modmod's out there?

    6. What is the difference between the "Provincial Campaign" and the "Imperial Campaign"?

    7. Does Barbarian Invasion become totally useless with this mod, because I can't play it anymore. Because every single time I start up the game, it crashes, and a popup saying: "Error Loading Mount Database" shows up.

    Ok, Thank You
And really this has made playing RTW so much more fun

1.) Raise taxes, . Or, the problem could be in how many units you have. If the up-keep for one of your units is say, $500, then that will be deducted evenly throughout each city. This doesn't include your Capital (Rome) however, as it will receive a bulk of that $500 to pay-off.

2.) When you have a queue of units, and your recruitment is set to 0 turn recruitment. Every single of of those lined up units will be created and ready to use the very next turn. If it's 1 Turn Recruitment, only ONE of those queued up units will be created when you finish your turn.

3.) I don't really know. Probably a lack of Faction Slots forced them to combine the two.

4.) Apparently it's on the edge of being finished, with just a few bugs needing to be found and sorted out. I don't think there's a set-date for release.

5.) 1.6 is all you need for a great experience. Well, and the 1.6a patch.

6.) Imperial Campaign is the MAIN game, where you can choose any Faction to play, and flog it out against each other. Provincial Campaign is like a tutorial, where you just play as ROME in Italy to get use to the game.

7.) I can't really answer that. Though I don't think this mod has been made for BI?

The only REAL difference between the Celts on this sceptred Isle and the ones on the continent was that the Brythonic tribes still used war chariots by the time the Romans got here, and had less by way of chainmail than those on the continent, along with the tendency to occasionally paint themselves with plant dye (THAT WAS NOT WOAD). Culturally, they were very similar - the Druidic centre in Anglesey was very important to Celts on the continent as well as the ones here. They shared a language and culture. So either you lump them together, or you break everyone up into individual tribes, like the Silures, Trinovantes, Iceni here and the Parisii, Remi and Senones back on continental Europe. Of course, in RS2 we've taken the middle ground, and gone for three large Celtic factions - The Averni (as led by Vercingetorix), the Belgae (who gave Caesar quite a hard time), and the Boii (because they're cool and unique and fill a gap in central Europe between the Cimbri (who begin in Denmark) and the Getai/Dacians who are initially just in Dacia). Plus they REALLY got around - they ended up in Galatia, and in Silesia (now part of Poland), but were displaced by Germanic migrations and eventually got wiped out by Julius Caesar. Still, they were in northern Italy in 216 BC, so we've got them there too. Keeps the Roman player on his toes when it comes to expanding into Cisalpine Gaul.
Oh, and while you can use the BI.exe to play RS (or the Alexander one, alex.exe) and it's recommended because they improve the AI (which is something we can't do because it's hard-coded), it utterly breaks BI, by its very nature.

    1. So in RS2 which group will dominate in England?

    2. So basicallly you are saying that because of this mod, I cannot play AT ALL BI?

If by "England" you mean Britain, then the Belgae have a toe-hold there (as they historically did), but most of the island (along with Ireland) will be under the control of Rebels/Free Barbarians. However, if the Belgae get wiped out on the continent, they usually take over the island pretty rapidly. We've got AOR units to represent some native Brythonic units along with the Caledonians further north, so it will look like you're fighting Brythonic tribesmen.

Oh, and that's completely correct. It's like having two mods installed at once within one copy of the RTW files. One breaks t'other.

You should make a copy of your whole RTW installation folder, and everything in it, along with BI and ALX if you have them. Now you can just rename the copied folder RS 1.6 or whatever and install RS 1.6 there. Now you have functioning Vanilla RTW, BI, ALX and RS.

I meant if you hadn't copied your installed RTW and then installed RS. However, if you've got multiple copy-pastes of RTW on your hard drive, you can play Vanilla plus as many mods as you've got copies!

You can do what I said.RS installer makes shortcut automatically, and you will use that one for playing RS.You can continue using RTW and BI vanilla shortcuts if you install RS in a separate RTW copy folder.

LOL what? AA doesn't work in the orginial game but not in RS? This confuses and infuriates me (not so much infuriate, just used for theatrics). Also, why ask that in here? It's completely off-topic.

@ Turk - The Belgae are very fun. I've been beta testing them and they can be quite effective if used correctly. Chariots are great

Just a tip, before you do anything to any of the files, whether it be tampering, or tweaking, or downloading a mod, always, ALWAYS, make a back-up copy of the original RTW, because now if you want to play the original, you'll have to reinstall it. Hope I helped.

Thanks for everyone's help! I'm not playing quite a fun game, as Rome in the Provincial Campaign (getting used to the new settings), but I have a quick question, how can I get more money?? I mean I'm trying to expand my borders, but I'm always hindered by my money problems for recruiting and things like that. Another question I had was, what occupation choices do you guys pick (eg. occupy, enslave etc.)?

    PS.
Another question I had was why is there a (L) next to some cities, what does it mean? I think it kind of looks weird, having it next to all the city names, and takes away from the aesthetic value of the game
Also I was wondering about the really long names some of the soldiers have, why is that?

The cities with an L next to them are places where you can recruit legions. The long names are the legions i assume, it's for telling which legion they belong to.

The L denotes that after the Reforms you can recruit one (or more) of the 35 named and numbered legions there. Those "L"'s won't be there in RS2, though.
And yeah, the units' names are named exactly as they were. That's why. Some of these legions were around for hundreds of years, and acquired tonnes of titles as sort of battle-honours in the process.
