Default How will Roman FM's work in RS II?

    Hi there,

I was wondering if any veteran RS players can give me a little insight into how Roman player development works out in RS 1 and 2. I have played EB for a long time and am used to some FM's fighting to senatorial positions, developing in schools and temples as scholars and priests, becoming womanizing fat pigs, or become great generals. Alot of it comes down to following particular gens' (family lines based on their middle name). Some family FM's are genetically predisposed to develop certain ways.

Also I was wondering if somebody can describe how the NEW political system in RS II works. Is it like EB, where FM's automatically get elected to particular offices? OR is it like RTR, where positions are ancillaries.

Lastly, will FM's be recruitable in RS II and is there any difference in recruiting a governor to a proconsul?

sorry for the barrage of questions

Well in RS 1.6a I think all of my Roman family members grew to be "womanizing fat pigs", in Rs II this is much more balanced, you'll still get those fat stupid governors but also great generals, holy men and disabled family members.
about the career stuff I can't say much but it's regulated through traits.
Family members can't be recruited, as far as I'm aware this is a hard coded limit.

Whoa stop right there. I thought we where promised no priests and no war dogs?! In the time period of RSII the world didn't start to decay yet, well not that much anyway.

Being a member of the Roman religious institutions was an important part of life and advancement for the Roman nobility, hence your generals and governors will acquire traits / ancillaries that reflect this.

There's no talk of war dogs, or of priests as battlefield units.

Generals CAN be recruited, mind. We've only got one form of General for each faction - we've done away with the Governors to save space, and because players weren't using them but the AI was.

That sucks, I always used governors in cities and generals in the army.

As I recall, the priest ancillaries are still in, but a bit rarer. Other vanilla ancillaries have been modified or done away with. No priests as a unit like Vanilla BI, mind. I hated those buggers. Always turned my Western Roman Empire back to being pagan.

The Roman Leadership system Calvin designed will basically help differentiate between a good 'general' and a good 'administrator' or civilian. So really, the governor units were not necessary. We still have work to do on the leadership systems for other factions\cultures, unfortunately.

Thanks dvk and friends. I know you guys are busting heads to get this thing polished so I appreciate your time. Calvin's system looks even more detailed than EB (as I lick my lips!)!

Another question: what determines whether FM or recruited general develops into one class or another? For example, do all recruited generals begin their career as centurions or is there a chance of recruiting a judge or partician immediately?

Well, FM's obviously don't start off as centurions - they're born into the nobility. With regards to the others, I'm not sure, but I don't think they have to fight the way up from the ranks...
