hmm... Do you really think Diplomats were the problem?

there was a problem with alliances with thrace. it wasn't the actual diplomat, but the alliance. so i temporarily removed them to move beyond CTD's, which we're slowly killing my ambition to do this. i will go back to that later.

the other glitch had to do with barracks. i think this is because when i made the new map i deleted all the mercenary information, and when cities rebelled, they werent able to get troops sometimes. so later when i add in mercenary pools again i will remove barracks and re-test.

i think i know have a CTD when a roman faction wins the game, but i need to look into it more. but that was the only one that occured over a couple campaigns up to the year 200.

EDIT: after investigation ... all factions but the roman ones can win the game without a CTD. but when the roman factions win it does a CTD. to solve this you can change the win_conditions.txt for the roman factions from "imperator" to "take_rome" ... this will not cause a CTD when you win the game with a roman family, but it will also not play the win video.. since i have seen the win video a million times, i really dont care

EDIT 2: after setting up all my mercenary pools (rahter than being empty) and running a campaign with no barracks at all starting in any towns, it runs fine without any CTD's.
Basically this means that if you delete the mercenary pools at the beginning when creating a new campaign, unitl you set them up properly for everyt region you may experience CTD issues.

There seems to be an issue with alliances causing CTDs in RTW 1.3 and in BI. It was brought to my attention first by Waitcu from the Zhanguo mod. The problems start happening when the unplayable factions are made playable and either the AI or the player tries to make alliances. So here are 3 situations causing CTDs I was able to replicate using Waitcu's files:

    1. An AI diplomat contacts another AI faction. At least one of the 2 factions involved was initially unplayable and was unlocked by the modder.
    2. An AI diplomat comes to the player with a diplomatic proposal. CTD when the scroll opens. Either our faction or that of the diplomat was unplayable before modding it.
    3. We contact an AI faction and offer an alliance. Two kinds of CTDs happen:
    a) We select Alliance from the diplomatic scroll menu and it immediately CTDs
    b) We select Alliance, the alliance is accepted and we close the scroll.

I suspect the same thing as Alpaca, that the problem is linked to some messages or texts that are missing. The big question is "which ones?". The problem only happens if we make those unplayable factions playable. If we keep them unplayable nothing bad happens - we can offer or accept diplomatic proposals from them without any CTD.

Is that problem still exist with 1.5 and BI ?

well, that saved me lots of time from trying to fix the diplomacy and try switching in differant factions.
