    Default Xmas banned

this has gone far too far now.

Xmas has once again been banned in the UK. Unfortunately, i have not got a link, as i did not read this over the internet.
But in several newspapers, and News on TV, it has been confirmed that in certain areas in Britain, it has been outlawed to have xmas decorations, sing xmas carols, or promote xmas as to not offend muslims in the area.

    WTF?

I would like to see a text source for this. Every time I hear someone screaming that "Christmas has been banned", what they really mean is that government institutions won't be publicly observing it. It doesn't mean that Christmas is actually banned; people are allowed to celebrate Christmas however they want, as private citizens.

This stuff is just annoying. It doesn't accomplish anything at all. But let's all be PC! yay

Besides, christianity and islam (and the jews) are the same thing anyway, so removing themes of one religion's holiday to be tolerant of another almost identical religion is just plain silly.

I'm impressed with your response AP. Salutes.

Anyway, as much as I can't stand the Anti Christian Lawyers Union (aka ACLU) I would have to agree with Darth Wong on this one. That is, unless such text can be confirmed.

Jeez, whats with you Europeans, eh? Muslims and hindu's in America dont celebrate holloween but they just dont answer their doors or politely explain to the kids that they dont have candy and do no celebrate the holiday, no big deal. They dont get all uppity and huffy and complain about children trick or treating...if they object to the traditions then they just dont let their kids trick or treat...no biggie. I thought PC was bad in America but yikes...this is just going way too far to try and keep a few feelings from being hurt. I just wanna say Y'know what? Let some feelings be hurt, I dont care. Enough of this pussification, stop crying about such trivial, pointless things people.

You have already said in other threads that you hate religion (except atheism) - apparently you are also stunningly ignorant of the doctrines behind them too.

You should realy find a link.

What newspapers (the Sun isn't a newspaper btw) reported this, and don't they have a website?

Hmmm this sounds unrealistic. Why would they have Christmas banned? Like RZZZA pointed out, here in the U.S., muslims don't really care about this stuff. They don't believe in Christmas so they don't celebrate it. They don't complain about other people celebrating it. The same thing with the Jewish folks. We pretty much all get along. As far I've seen things in the U.S., people are pretty considerate about each other's beliefs.

what i mean is that it isnt banned in houses, but is banned from public showing. No it wasnt in the Sun newspaper, i dont read that crap. It was in the times, and the metro. unfortunately, as i said, i havnt come across it on any internet source. i could dig the paper out of the trash and scan it though...but my scanner would get smelly.
Funnily enough, it did not surprise me. dont forget, this is the country that allows muslims to burn union jacks in public, and to publically preach hatred against us.

Another flaw in the story: Muslims consider Jesus as one of their prophets too.
The Koran even has more references to the virgin Mary than the Bible has.

I've read over the Koran several times and that's pretty much true. Muslims believe in Jesus as a prophet and not the son of god. Muslims also acknowledge Moses and Abraham, etc. They also dismiss the trinity concept and say that there is only one God.

Hmmmm... this reminds me of a certain analogy I read or heard from somewhere.

The aggressive nature of Christianity, Islam, and Judaism against one another can be put into the scope of three small kids playing in a playground. All three kids have similar mentalities, and each of the three kids wants to achieve the same objective. Now let's put a ball into the middle of the playground. Each kid, having the same objective mentality, will want to get the ball and play with it, causing fights between the three. In effect, the children will always fight between each other for the sole reason that they all want the same thing.

Now just look at Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Between jihads, crusades, and pogroms, the three religions ain't exactly peaceful and compassionate, as they claim to be. It just goes to show you that the three religions symbolize three little jealous and self-centered children with no real grasp on reality. It is so simple, really. All three religions are pretty much the same thing and follow many of the same beliefs and prophecies, yet they are always seeking to destroy one another.

I've always thought of this... we are all really children in adult bodies. Every single one of us.

yes, unfortunatly this is true. Judaism, Christianity and Islam all worship the same god, albeit with different names. i just dont understand why there is all this grief bewteen them, and that we atheists seem to bear the brunt of it as well!

I ain't sure that Allah is the same God worshipped in the Bible, and even the Old Testament (although this is much, much more dubious).

But the news in the original post looks fake.

It's the same God I'm pretty sure, but Islam doesn't believe in the Trinity.

It's amazing what Google can do. I found this but that is all.

I think it would be all over the news if they banned Christmas in the UK.

    and,

    http://icsouthlondon.icnetwork.co.uk...name_page.html

I think it is a ban from public events, not the actual holiday.

    Great find, Rahl.
I knew this was all BS.

No, I think it's just the name.
In stead of calling them "Christmas lights" they called them "Winter lights", and this is what made ultra-conservatives say they "banned" christmas.

But IMO "winter lights" is a better name anyways because:

December 2 "Winter Lights" switch-on will be followed by a Chinese lantern parade.

Streatham and Oval town centres' "Winter Lights" will be lit up from November 19 and November 24.

Waterloo residents have been promised a "Celebrity Lights" switch-on on December 1.

Details of Brixton's festive event have yet to be confirmed.

Only in Norwood have residents been invited to the switch on of "Christmas Lights". That event takes place on November 24.
And what date was Christmas again?

My country has never called these kinds of lights christmas lights, simply because they have always been used on two (christian based) holidays: Sinterklaas (December 5th) and Christmas.
I guess in the eyes of those conservatives this means my country have never experienced christmas.

As a Hindu, I feel this has indeed gone too far. We should celebrate our cultures, not try to disown it to please others.
