For myself, I love Pink Floyd, and indeed, one of the most powerful experiences in my life is a time I hit Darkside of the Moon up and listened with some fellow enthusiasts, it was a beautiful moment. But, do many of you dig the Floyd? One of my best mates who's the bassist for a metal band called Our Divide dismisses them as pretentious artschool rock, and I can see his point, but I can also see what he's missing. What do you all think?

I'm sure you'll understand that many of us here worship Pink Floyd. They're my favorite band.

Have you heard Echoes from David Gilmour's concert at Royal Albert Hall called "Remember That Night"? It's the best version of it, I think. When they rock out after the crazy keyboard/guitar part, it destroys your speakers!

This just took my head off, probably the best I've heard it. And considering how good "Echoes" is, that's saying something.

I have The Wall on vinyl as well, and that'd see too much play if it wasn't on my computer as well. I love the artwork, and how the wall is higher on each progressive side of the LP until it's all the way to the top. It also loops if you listen very carefully, at the start of "In the flesh?" you can hear someone finishing a sentance started at the very end of "Outside the Wall". "Isn't this where/ we came in?". Very cool effect.

As for David Gilmour, he's far and away one of my favourite guitarists. His solos are so gorgeous, he takes emotive playing to a whole other level. They're almost like stories in themselves, and his guitar tone's also fantastic.

I saw Pink Floyd in concert twice and it was an awesome experience. Like any music my interest ebbs and flows like the tide but every so often I let the music flow and I'm never dissapointed.

I don't understand how you can think they're bad musicians. Gilmour's style is unlike most others'. Sure, his songwriting isn't the greatest, but I don't think anyone can say his solos aren't exceptional. Richard Wright, R.I.P., is a fantastic musician. I love his jazzy-bluesy influences in music. Just because his keyboard playing isn't extraordinary in the music doesn't mean he's not an excellent musician. I consider Richard Wright as the sort of soul of Pink Floyd, at least with their sound. Mason doesn't get enough credit because he doesn't have overly complex or distinctive drum performances. Mediocre? That adjective isn't used in conjunction with Pink Floyd.

Heck, even my high school students like Pink Floyd. One student even knew all of the song off The Wall. I was impressed.

I don't think they were a truly great band until David Gilmour replaced of Syd Barratt. I don't mean to imply by this that Gilmour was the driving talent, even though I very much like his continuation-Pink-Floyd albums (Momentary Lapse of Reason and The Division Bell). I still can't help feeling there is some spark of originality missing from them. Of course Roger Waters's thought he wasPink Floyd, but I don't warm to his post-Floyd solo works. I especially not The Final Cut. it is a collection of rejected material from The Wall, harsh on the ears, and insufferably self-pitying. It is effectively a Roger Waters solo album despite the branding.

I wouldn't say I really enjoy The Final Cut a lot. I like it but it's certainly not something I choose to listen to. My itty bitty obsession with Pink Floyd and my respect for Waters' uniqueness/narcissism is enough to let me enjoy The Final Cut. Anytime Waters yells, I think it's awesome.

There really is something special about Dark Side of the Moon, it was the Pink Floyd album where everything seemed to gel, Waters, Wright, Mason and Gilmour were all contributing creatively, and the whole thing was recognisably a unified and cohesive work. Wish You Were Here was a worthy successor, but by the time they did Animals, Waters was starting to confuse himself with the Almighty and input from the rest of the band was dropping.

The Dark Side of the Moon is one of those albums that defines a band and will forever be remembered in history. It is such a complete concept album. Their unique sound and style is heard throughout yet each song is different and fantastic in its own way. It's one of those albums where it's hard to listen to just one song. You have to listen to the whole thing.

Whenever I listen to Pink Floyd or Yes, I always think that their music is like artworks instead of just songs.

You HAVE to watch it on something other than YouTube. I own the concert on Blu-Ray and when I turn up "Echoes" to 11, it's the greatest experience ever. Watching P.U.L.S.E. might be just as great though. It gives me chills.

"While my guitar gently weeps." That's what I think Gilmour does with his guitar. It doesn't sound like he's playing a solo. It sounds like he's making the guitar cry, sing, etc.

From what I've heard of them, Pink Floyd really doesn't do it for me for some reason. It's weird, because I like most of the other classic rock bands surrounding them like Zeppelin and Queen and the Beatles. I guess it's an acquired taste.

I find them a bit pretentious but it's damn good music.

Gotta love Floyd. I own several of their albums, and The Wall film.

I went through a two year period when Pink Floyd was the only band I would often listen to. That continuity left me exhausted to the point where now I can only listen to Atom Heart Mother. However, I do feel that it helped me branch out to other genres of music that, although not specifically related to prog rock were around the same time period.
