Default SS6.2 or SS6.2 RR/RC the Great Weekend debate: Which is better for you?

Madonna - Die another day http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XOf4MyY032c

The above is pertenent bcause it tells the story of a person struggling with inner turmoil as they simultaneously deal with the external termoils in their life

Okay, we've opened 100 or so threads between these two so now I call on all the Stainless Steel Scholars to come here and duke it out. Which of these two is better for you and why?

Let the in depth mud slinging begin. And yes this is going in Stainless Steel Standards, so please be as informative as possible. It's for the benefit of others who really want to know.

    Okay, I start off. It's SS6.2 vanilla for me...cuz...

    1. If you have the infrastructure, you can build the units or features.

    2. The role play is not crushing. I have a good imagination and the basic education system is about all I want to be able to keep up with.

    3. Unit build times. Please don't tie my hands any further. This is just a game and I would very much like to be able to enjoy it. thank you....

    4. Yes I concede the P.B.'s{Point Blank} version got lots of goodies but I just don't like anyone telling me that I can't do this and I can't do that while I'm just trying to enjoy playing my game....

    Mega Tortas,

I chose 6.2 RR/RC, let me tell you why:

    1. I cannot play SS without RR/RC, I feel it adds alot of balance to your forces, in that you just cannot recruit alot of hard ass Knights.
    2. Rusichi & MadTAO's Units are just so damn good.
    3. The unbelieavable amount of eye candy is so pleasing to the eye.
    4. Massive respect to Point Blank who puts so much time and effort into RR/RC for SS, with having to balance with his support to TATW

NJ: I would love all the eye candy because I'm of the that enjoys seeing the map change. But also remember I also have ad&d and all those restrictions just drive me insane and make me want to kill someone....

RR/RC is more fun to me... playing MTW2 is at least partially about some sense of history and having an entire army of uber units contradicts that.

Having fewer "elite" units make each one feel more important and as if your resources actually have to be managed a little. When you can build anything you have whenever you want it makes the game not only easier but gives less sense of accomplishment. Since computer games generally don't give much sense of accomplishment anyway, every little bit helps. The same reason I think most people rarely complete campaigns. Once you know you are going to win there is little accomplishment from continuing.

The better unit graphics and some other differences are nice but it is a rare battle I zoom in close enough to notice. I do enjoy the small additional challenge due to unrest etc as well because if there is no reason to leave a garrison then every campaign becomes a blitz and different opponents/factions become a blur. When you are required to leave a garrison or pick more carefully where you want to expand it gives some use to actually having good strategy vs there being little threat to any plans you put into practice.

Huh... I have crazy ADHD as well but that makes me prefer restrictions. Then I have to focus more to keep track of what is going on. When there are no restrictions my attention wanders. Actually regular RR/RC is not enough- I usually play BGR. I did try Third Age for awhile but the sense of accomplishment there is low for me because I am not into the lore. It was fun to try each faction for a short campaign but SS draws me back.

I already play most campaigns while I work or do school stuff. I found I suck at multi tasking in the sense of doing multiple things simultaneaously but doing few different tasks where I can focus on each one for a short period works well since during that period my focus is so intense I don't even hear people talking to me or one time sat thru a fire alarm. I use 2 monitors- 1 for work/school and 1 for the game. I only play about 10 turns a day or less but that is enough to let me focus during the rest of the day instead of going stir crazy. Though I am thinking of getting a standing desk soon... sitting in a chair so long is starting to get to me.

Ditto. I might have found a way, however, of how to increase the recruitment rates!

    I voted SS 6.2 RC4.
Because I like a more aggressive AI.
For the rest I share the same opinion as Mega Tortas.

    6.2 RR/RC
    1. Is the awesome game play. (more on that in a sec*)
    2. All the unit goodies that are in it. For example CBUR, BftB, Ruschi Mod units MadTAO's polish units, Lords KT's units etc.
    3. The balance that goes into the units. Example you don't have full plate knights as soon as you upgrade to a fortress it matters what the date is and not the structure!
    4. Lot O Eye Candies!

*Game play* You actually have to be smart about where you use your elite knights because it takes time to build up an "Elite" army. You can't just spam stacks upon stacks of them because the recruitment pool and refresh time is tweaked. An that's good IMHO because if you have a disastrous battle and loose you might actually loose a settlement or two. What I'm trying to say is there are consequences for your defeats with RR/RC and I think that is a sweet feature. Keeps you on your toes!

@Mega what unholy dark unfathomable abyss do you crawl down into to find these pictures that you have in your posts. I just have to say +rep for the shtuff you find and the way you put them in your posts.

Boo still cant vote, should post random stuff more :p

When i first started playing med2 total war, and tried Stainless Steel, one of the reasons I went back and played a vanilla campain was the amount of time it takes to create an army. It was annoying, i liked being able to field armies and react fast.

However now, i cannot play without it. True it takes a very very long time to field an elite army, for the Romans 3 turns for the main spear units, but It greatly reduces the army spam with endless elite units. I remeber the last campain i played in vanilla, i remeber near the end of the campain i blitzed germany, I created 12 stacks of very high quality, think they would be late professinal mostly, within 10 turns. Granted I had most all of the old roman empire, but still.

The main reasons i cant really play with rr/rc anymore is the creating a fully professinal army takes forever, but when its out, its a real force not to be messed with. And it reduces army spam, making battles more important, if you lose your whole professinal army it could cost you many things including the campain. Role playing doesnt factor into it. I have modded a few minor things in it, like shields and removing the supply system also. Just makes the armies seem more important to me and not just little zerglings running at the enemy.

I prefer the RR/RC compilation as well. I like having to use balanced armies, as it requires me to use tactics in my larger battles. It engages my mind a bit more by requiring me to pick my wars carefully- in no other mod have I had to check the diplomatic situation before embarking on a war. I also like how it forces me to keep more castles as castles. In regular SS, as soon as a castle went far enough into my interior, I would change it into a city. I'm a bit OCD about my settlements and just can't stand having settlements idle. I found myself converting to cities just so I didn't have castles sitting idle and not recruiting troops. Having to have the extra castles to react to a massive attack seems more realistic to me than just recruiting elites from the front line castles and being unfazed by a 3 front war (try reacting to a combined English, Aragonese, Genoese and HRE attack as France after you've changed Caen and Bordeaux to cities in RR/RC and you'll see what I mean).

i'm with mega t. i like alot of elements in rr/rc but there are way to many restrictions. don't get me wrong it's not really the challenge, i can handle that, it's just more like work and less fun. to play rr/rc i'd literally feel i'd have to live tw, which would be great, but i have kids, work and coach soccer.

my other issue is the limits in game to reflect real history. i love history and realism but it's a game! if i want the scottish to conquer the world, that's not historical, but i can do it. irks me that i can't make cities huge, build roads etc.,because they didn't in history, but the scottish didn't conquer the world eithere. That's something i hated in empire too. restrictions, restrictions, in the name of history makes no sense in a game!

Playing RR/RC, when you finally start recruiting better troops it's much more rewarding than being able to recruit them based on the level of your castles. The challenge makes it alot more fun too. I can't remember the last time I played SS without it.

I chose the forth option, I do play both(different computers.) and I don't care about the difference. One is nice sometimes, one the other.
But I'd like to change it from:
"I don't care. Leave me alone, I'm doing Playstation and my GF is brining pizza."
    To:
"I don't care. Leave me alone, it's a saturday night and I'm doing nothing, and I'm alone so I have to microwave my own dinner."

i'm a historical accuracy geek, and seeing as rr/rc makes a further step towards that direction via attempts to portray recruitment etc, i will ultimately prefer it to basic 6.2

    RR/RC

With vanilla you can spam elite units and dominate the AI completly.
Actually it gets boring. In RR/RC you have to make up tactics how to beat AI elite units with your peasants.

    Ya.....with the optimum word being...."you".

No ones holding a gun to "your" head, and making you abuse the AI. Personal preference, yo. Ya just can't resist playing bully boy, so someone needs to remove the option. No worries RR/RC is cool like that...
