Did you delete the appropriate txt.strings.bin files afterwards? Does the system.log.txt file give you any clues?

however i did put the new trait before the Hungarian ones which aren't used in Thera so should i have added the new ones after them, oddly enough the shortcut text.strings.bin is missing

string.bin files get generated if they are 'older' then their txt counterpart or missing. If they don't get generated then it is usually formatting error. If you use Wordpad as example, you will get those errors. Always use notepad (there are others around but this one comes with OS)
The position of your entry within the file doesn't matter.
    My suggestion:
    - make a copy of a text file that has a corresponding string.bin file
    - in that copy delete all entries after the first line
    - from your old file, copy everything, except the first line, into that file.
    - save as your old filename (export_vnvs I suppose)

it's not working at this rate i might as well, either replace the files and replace Hungary, or just forget about it at this rate
