Here the completed list of names and surenames for the italian factions.
I'll add more and more names as I'll have some free time.yes
Bye
Good job, Alessandro! I'll mark the list as completed, and the rep goes too as promised.![]()
here is my list. i just want to add a slight note. every last name that begins with the word "Ibn" should only be entitled to males because they mean "son of..". if i have more time, i will edit some more last names to this list, as half of them are applicable on men only.![]()
I hope that the Sicilian Vespers will adopt your work!!
Just a suggestion regarding the Papal states names- don't use the versions with numerals (i.e. Gregorius IX) but just the plain names (Gregorius). In fact, the papal names as they are, are perfect IMO, and need no changing, although you might want to work on surnames and such for other characters of the faction. Surnames for generals, spies, etc. should be Italian, not Latin.
Also, I suggest using the old 6.1 papal name list in descr_names.
In 6.3 we have:
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Which seems to the casual observer like a nice clean list without repetitions, but it should be
because it represents the probability of a given Papal name being used in the period covered in the game. That is, historically there were a lot of Gregorys and Innocents in the period, but just one Julius and just one Leo.Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
In fact, if you want a well rounded-out names mod you should take this into account for all factions. Common names such as Edward or Mary (for England) should appear repeatedly in the descr_names lists, because there should be many more people called Mary and Edward than say, Linota or Aubrey. Each project manager should be able to tell you which names are common in that language.
PS: Personal peeve. Add Charles to the England boys list. How come there isn't a Charles therein? Edit: Oh, I just saw it in the preview. Great work.

@Rus-Bey
Well, the mod will be free to use for everyone, so it only depends on them.
@Caralampio
Don't worry about that mate, I'm well aware of the problems with the numerals and there won't be a single one in this mod.
As for the Papal names, I added many historical ones to the list and will also use duplicates, so it should be enough for them I guess. Regarding the other factions, I'll look to use duplicates where possible, though not all nations will have them in the first release - that's gonna be a task for later versions.
Thanks for your suggestions, and have rep for them!![]()

Great, many thanks nuel, at last the Turkish list is completed too.
Another rep is yours for that, you deserved it!![]()
Final Draft!! it cant get any better than this.
good luck Fair Prince.![]()
Magnificent work Pasha, it surely can't get any better.
Thanks for all your effort you've put into this project, and have another deserved rep for that!
Sure, if you have some spare time for that.
I'll upload your Norwegian list into first post, please use that file for editing.

@Fair Prince:
Want me to re-do the Norwegian list so that common names have more entries than uncommon names?
A note: it will almost certainly break your save-games, since many entries have been removed.
Didn't see that, sorry.
Found one problem, though: it doesn't seem to apply properly. For it to apply properly, the maps.rwn file has to be deleted, or overwritten. Also, I found a few errors when testing the version I'm going to use in the Compilation.
File with corrected descr_strat, and a Late descr_strat attached. Maps.rwn included (put in data\campaign\<campaign>\base)
Strange, during my testing there wasn't any problem with the map file.
I won't like to include it as I'd prefer to keep the mod as simple as possible, but if there's no choice then I'll do that of course.
Anyway, thanks for the late campaign files - would it be possible to include these updated descr_strat files in your fixes? That way I won't have to include them in this mod, which would significantly improve its compatibility.
Hey FP,
That table in the first post is a bit wrong. "Aukštaitis", "Žemaitis" and other similar "surnames" are actually by-names, they just use different word form. Lithuanians had surnames(documented ones) only from the mid XV century. I probably should have made that clear, when I gave in those names.
