Good progress Fair Prince!
Good progress Fair Prince!
Hi Fair Prince!
This is my "updated" file, I have not changed the names because they were all correct, only cleaned them up a bit.![]()
All right, that'll do, thanks!
Truth to be told, these Italian names were first compiled by the authors of the Characters Names Project, then Seether overhauled them later the Alberi di Famiglia Regal mod, so it's them who deserve the praise.
Nonetheless, I thank you for verifying the names with your Italian eyes.

Note: the Italian (Genoa/Venice/Sicily) table has been removed from the second post.
Ok, the Greek list is ready..
I've used the ISO format as you told me.. I've tried to make the names look as Greek as it gets using only latin characters.. The only serious change I've made from the ISO was to make the letter 'W' act as an O because in the Greek language we use 2 O's. One is the standard 'ο' and the other is 'ω'.. Ω/ω is used in many names such as Κωνσταντινος/Konstantine, so I've made it look like Kwnstantinos.. If you need anything else send me a message..
Under the patronage of Emperor Maximinus Thrax
"Steps to be taken in case Russia should be forced out of war considered. Various movements [of ] troops to and from different fronts necessary to meeting possible contingencies discussed. Conference also weighed political, economic, and moral effect both upon Central and Allied powers under most unfavorable aspect from Allied point of view. General conclusions reached were necessity for adoption of purely defensive attitude on all secondary fronts and withdrawing surplus troops for duty on western front. By thus strengthening western front [those attending] believed Allies could hold until American forces arrive in numbers sufficient to gain ascendancy."
~General Pershing, report to Washington, 26 July 1917
All right, I've checked the file. Most names are good but there also needs to be some corrections made (I'll contact you in pm about that).
Nonetheless, a rep goes for your work so far.![]()
I decided to take matters into my own hands and completed the Latin name list.
Since it's main purpose is to influence the names of the Popes in the game, I've researched all of the previous Popes' names and added about 40 new names to the current list.
The Latin table has been removed from the first post.
I could try doing the Norwegian names, I'm Norwegian.
First, welcome on the Forum!
It's good to see you wrote your first post in my thread, and it's even better you want to contribute to this project.
As for the Norwegian names, truth to be told, I already asked a guy here to complete that table, but I haven't heard from him for while now. Maybe he'll finish it sooner or later, but anyway, since you said you're willing to contribute (and I'd like to make progress with the project), I gladly accept your help.
I uploaded a new Norwegian table in the first post for you, and instructions can be found there too.
Please use the 3 faction-specific letters (æ, å, ø) where it's needed in the second column and just post the completed file here when you're done.![]()
Okay, done.
The bynames took the longest, because they were all for some reason using the Danish "af" instead of the Norwegian "av"![]()

Thanks, you did an excellent (and very fast) work!
You've just earned your first rep here.
The Norwegian table has been removed from the first post.
BTW, the English names don't really need translation, do they? Maybe you should just check them off as done and remove the file.
Edit: Oh and, what's "work in done by Meneth" (in the OP) supposed to mean?
Guessing the "in" shouldn't be there.
Okay, corrected, I just left the 'in'-s there accidentally while changing the line.
As for the English names, it's true that no translation is needed, I just uploaded it in the hope that someone would verify it and maybe even add some new Anglo-Norman names to the list.![]()
I would know Fair Prince, it is possible to separate names between nobles and non-nobles? Its completly unrealistic to see merchants with noble names, same for the King who "adopt" a guy with peasant name...
I said that essentially for France, Venice,Castilla, Arago/Catalogna. I prefere so far the system from MTW1, with dynastic names and numerology.A french king named Pierrot or Gaspard, or a Roman Imperor named Günter, and the Greeks ruled by a Basileos with philosoph's name, It is jocking!!!!
Its my point of view, of course
That's an obvious problem of M2TW, but unfortunately there's nothing we can do about it. Character names must be put in the descr_names.txt file, and once a name is there, it can allocated to every character in a faction, be it a general, admiral, priest, merchant, etc.
What's more, the game uses a pre-generated list to determine the first names of the newly spawned characters (as I pointed out in post #13).
dommage...
Hi there, here's the revised version of the German names (without any guarantees of phonetical or historical correctness) if you have further questions don't hesitate
All right, thanks for the good job! I have some minor questions though, I'll ask them in pm soon.
The rep goes as promised.
The German/Teuton table has been removed from the first post.
